Will there realistically be any difference between 2022 and 2023 build quality?

I finally got a build date for August which is nice. Xlt with lux, 4k, fx4, rear window. One thing I asked my dealer to do was to remove the lux package and he never did which unfortunately probably pushed my build date back a few months. By the time I get my Mav it will most likely be mid to late September and I really wanted to try and avoid a situation where I get my 2022 shortly before they start producing and shipping 2023 models. I would much rather wait another 2-3 months and feel like I'm getting a new car with the kinks worked out instead of one that will be one year old within a few months but I got a build date before I could contact my dealer to change it.

I'm considering putting another order in with my dealer for a 23 and decide what I want to do after. It may be a stupid complaint but I've always had a bad taste with first model year cars but I was sold because of the drivetrain being in production for a long time, and if I got it earlier in the year I would have been ok with it but this situation is the one thing I wanted to avoid. Just want to see what others are doing in this situation and if my concerns are justified

There are only a few days between 2022 production ending and 2023 production beginning. I can't imagine there will be any significant quality changes in the materials. About the only benefit to getting a 2023 is any software patches/updates and the discovery and repair of any other "surprise" defects. But at the cost of waiting extra weeks/months for delivery.

I totally agree with your way of thinking. I ordered my hybrid in September and would prefer it to roll over into MY23. I hope it does. At this point, I'd rather have the new and improved version.

There will absolutely be differences; how significant those differences are, only time will reveal.

As an example, this was just posted on an F150 forum from someone who recently took delivery. Enough folks made squawks about the rear axles coming rusted, turns out Ford is now coating them from the factory!

This is a fairly significant change for the F-150 that Ford has not made any real mention of, but you better believe Maverick will see its fair share of changes in build quality as well. Unfortunately we won't actually know of them until folks take delivery and start noting the quality changes/improvements.

That's a really interesting question. I've watched a lot of industry insiders talk about it. Tesla is famous for constantly changing their design and production line "right now". And I've read that some manufacturers only do production line changes annually during a scheduled break - because it's disruptive and expensive to interrupt the line.

One manufacturing person on this site who's in the industry said that the first year of a production line is a constant series of tweaks and process fixes. Both on the line and at the Tier Ones. It's not just physical changes, but also process and training changes for the first year.

Do you really think that if you order a MY23 you will only be waitinfg 2-3 months? Take the MY22 and be happy!

No I'm saying if my my22 was converted to a 23 it would only be 2-3 extra months. Even if I place a new order in August I would think it would be q1 2023 before I receive it which is still a lot earlier

I wouldn’t take a chance on a 23 when I have one on the way. Could be awhile. We don’t even know if/how they will prioritize 22 orders.

My guess is that the main improvement will be changing of some manufacturing methods that created issues that surfaced this year. For example, I doubt they will drill into any more gas tanks.

There may be other beneficial changes, but keep in mind that any change brings new opportunities for new mistakes. I doubt that reliability will be much different between the 23s and the 22s, but on the other hand I'm pretty satisfied with my 22.

I have been wondering if in the years ahead the Maverick M22 and M23 will be the years to avoid. We'll look back at this time as the worst years ever for auto manufactures.
I'm still ordering a '23 though

There is a very short lag time between the end of the 22' production and start or 23'. You won't be getting anything drastically different, will likely pay more, and may still get stuck waiting until the end of the 23' like with the 24' on the horizon. All that to say I don't think you will be drastically improving your lot taking a late production 22' over an early (maybe) production 23'.
