So it’s ok to have catastrophic engine failure, we just want to make sure it does t burn up so we’ll drill some holes and open her up a bit. WOW, what about the root cause, the crank that was milled incorrectly? WOW AGAIN. Ford has so many recalls it’s scary, just canceled my Bronco after seeing how they are handling the recall on my Maverick. I’ll be looking to dump it now as I plan on traveling a lot, don’t want catastrophic engine failure or even the possibility of it when they know it’s an issue when I’m hundreds of miles from home.
Whew, that's what I call excessive. Maybe a Xanax would help that anxiety. I think things have been blown out of proportion, just my opinion.

I'll be curious to see if knocking out a few active grill shutters lowers mileage. I am guessing slower to warm up on extremely cold days? But you would think if the engine was hot enough to promote combustion, the grill shutters would already be open?.... You can't feed me enough information. Seems like overkill for a really low rate of catastrophic engine failures.

It is a really small rate of engine failures to the overall recall group. You could look at it as Ford being proactive. It's the things not addressed that are lurking in any new model release that could get any vehicle. Even Toyota has the wheels falling off their new EV and the rear axles coming loose on the new Tundra.

From the recall notice in post #1 in this thread.

I think they listed the manufacturing issues as a reason for the recall because they are causing higher than normal engine failure rates. Otherwise, why mention them at all? Why not just say "In the event of an engine failure breaching the block or oil pan... etc."?

If I understand correctly, you think Ford issued this recall (admitting these issues are causing engine failures), but we have no reason to believe engine failures are more frequent than normal. That doesn't seem likely to me.
Exactly! So what happens if it pops 37k down the road? SOL?

I got my recall notice today. Called the dealership I purchased from about it. Here's the gist of what they unloaded on me in one breath:
The parts are backordered for 2 months at least but we need to pull the battery and junction box to run a diagnostic which renders the vehicle undrivable so then it has to sit here until the parts come in AND we're out of loaners.

My response was that I use this vehicle to make a living and that it was unacceptable to have it sit at the dealership for 2 plus months. I asked if I should just drive it until it catches fire and then sue Ford. She put me on hold to talk to a manager, then came back and suggested I try another dealer. I called a larger dealership in Kalamazoo and the service guy was like "Uh huh, uh huh, hmm.....I hate to throw any of my colleagues under the bus, buuuut...."

I'm taking it in there in a couple of weeks to have the little venting adjustment done. He said 2 hours tops.
First dealer appears to be talking about the battery wiring harness, which has no recall as far as I'm aware. The recall related to potential fire after a slightly possible engine failure needs no parts and no diagnostics and can apparently be done while you wait as long as you have an appointment.

Everyone please READ the documents. There is no known case of crankshaft defect or failure in the Maverick. That issue relates to 2021 Escapes and only a handful of those.

Based on published figure of 0.17 engine failures per 1,000 vehicles (ergo, 17 per 100,000) AND there were 35,766 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2020 in which 38,824 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.7 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.34 deaths per 100 million miles traveled. The fatality rate per 100,000 people ranged from 4.9 in Massachusetts to 25.4 in Mississippi, I'm concluding that in many states one is statistically more likely to die in an accident than experience an engine failure. Yet how many of us will worry about death vs an engine demolition when we slide into the drivers seat?

While many of us know that no Mavericks have or should have engines that go “boom”, if you read the Ford “Authority” announcement of the fire hazard you certainly do come away thinking that the Maverick IS involved. These are the same people that cherry-picked one report on “thin paint” and started spreading that nonsense as well.

Depends on whether I'm driving in Chicago or in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. 😋

wow, lots of whining. Anyone with a thought knew this is the test year and would be the most prone to issues to be worked out. Get it fixed for free and move on.
Not the first year for the engine. Since when should customers be the "test" for anything?

Looks like I'm more likely to fail than my truck is.

Bummer... My three score and ten warranty ran out a while back.
