Given the "dates affected" listed in the recall, I wanted to know his build date because he said his Maverick isn't subject to the recall.

But I think I'll give up on this now...

If I was a potential buyer, I’d definitely not order a hybrid for MY2023. Yeah, you all should stick to Ecoboost and steer clear of the hybrid. Especially if it’s an AWD hybrid system.

Yup, my Maverick and my wife's '22 Escape SE hybrid have both been recalled.

The new engines will be next on the block. They all suffer from the same problem all GDI engines have: Excess carbon build-up on the valves and piston rings. Once the rings start failing the rod bearings fail causing engine failures and oil fires. There needs to be a maintenance interval for intake/ring cleaning on the GDI engines to prevent it. It's an industry-wide problem that will persist. If you think that you have an "improved, newer style" engine that can avoid this you're deluded.

Buildup on the intake valves is main the problem, various ways to combat this are varying valve overlap so fuel injected into the cylinder can be flushed back past the intake valve to aid in cleaning the intake valve head. If it gets too bad, air flow is reduced to the point that performance suffers. Another common approach (used on some Fords) is the addition of PFI on GDI engines, this also helps with light load engine performance.
What would failing piston rings have to do with rod bearings failing causing a catastrophic engine failure? This is what you were talking about, correct?

well the only good news for me is that I had to remove the lower set of active shutters to install my tow bar baseplate.

Do you /they need to remove the front bumper for that?

Wait...what? You're OK with letting fluids (gas and oil) leak out onto the roadway, but not OK with removing blinds from the grill because it reduces emissions? Riiiiiiight.

Hard to take this point of view seriously.

Under engine covers will not retain fluids because of a leak, they would allow distribution of the fluid over a larger area.

yes...why would ANYONE not take the 100. hitch option....? Harness and hitch for a C note...? EASIEST of all the options to figure out.

Because some of us didn't know a TRUCK would not come standard with a hitch.

When I found out 3 weeks after I ordered I had already been scheduled and even though there was 11 weeks until being built Ford did not allow any changes to the scheduled order.

That is why.

I am correcting the error by ordering a MY23 Maverick XLT Hybrid with the hitch and selling my current MY22 Maverick.

It’s a cascade failure. When the deposits on the valve make their way to the rings and clog them up, oil can no longer move past the rings and it burns in the combustion chamber. Oil consumption begins to accelerate and often goes unnoticed until the rod bearings, and sometimes the main bearings, are no longer getting proper lubrication. Friction increases leading to catastrophic engine damage. I’ve been in the automotive industry for over 35 years and still counting, and yes, I really know engines.

It says that in the event of an Engine Failure oil and fuel may come into contact with an ignition source and cause fire. I think just about any engine failure that is bad enough to cause oil and fuel to come out of the engine will cause a fire, not just the 2.5 Hybrid. Think of all the engine failures in say NASCAR, most of those leave a trail of oil or fuel that is on fire. I still think the Hybrid is the way to go, Ford and others have had too many problems with small turbo charged engines, especially GDI engines. That's one of the big reasons I went Hybrid.

Totally agree. As soon as the industry started cranking out more HP with turbos in those small engines to increase fuel economy I said no thanks.

I am one of those annoying types that analyze everything to death. Over the long term is it worth a few extra mpg if you are drastically reducing the useful life of the engine

Not an assumption. This was in my Ford account and it was actually dated 7/7/22

The date announced for for notification by mail. They legally have to do that. The notification typically takes place about a month after the recall is announced.
7/8/22 is when the recall was activated to dealers. Notifications go out to Ford Pass right away as well, but that is not what counts.

Maybe this is lingering in my mailbox, but I didn't get a notice yet. I had to look up my VIN for it to show up.

You won't get a letter in the mail for another month.
