Yeah, but it wont be as good as new, really.

Repaired paint is never as good as OEM, and it will weather and fade in a few years. Silver is the worst.

When you go to trade it the used car manager (if not a moron) will notice the paint work.

From those pictures without looking underneath, the damage does not look that bad. The dealer would can fix it as an unregistered vehicle, it never gets documented and you get your Mav in a couple weeks and it will be as good as new if fixed professionally and no reason to expect it wouldn't be. The kid has insurance so he pays. I would not walk away from that but that is just me.

You need to do you. Good luck mate. I wish you the best.

Yeah, I see that. If I am in an accident in my friend's car, I would do whatever it takes to make it right.

But- the dealer is obviously not my friend. In addition, my friend would be doing me a favor if they LOAN me their car. I kind of INDEBTED to my friend as soon as she hands me the keys. So, that doubles my desire to make things right. The dealership gave him the keys to close a business deal, it was not a favor. It was just business.

And as soon as the dealer tried to suggest that I (the OP in this case) should claim this on MY INSURANCE... all bets are off. They are clearly assholes, trying to take advantage.

The dealer has insurance and attorneys, let them handle it.

Just a question here. If you borrowed a friend's vehicle who pays for the accident you are borrowing you or your friend? On this one he was not at fault so it should be the other driver.

Doubt if they would, or will.
They can take it to the auction and make a nice profit once it's fixed.

Why would the dealer discount it?

I have to totally respectfully disagree with your comments, however it is a challenge for paint techs to "dumb themselves down" so to speak to try and match the robotic paint jobs. Duplicating the factory orange peel being just one issue. I am familiar with high quality PPG solventborne base coats and 2 K ceramic clear coats and IMHO in no way does the factory paint compare in both quality of application and quality of product in the hands on an experienced tech.

One might want to duck to tell the techs I personally know that their methods are sub par to a Mexican robot using waterborne paints. . (bad joke ;) )

At any rate, hey you do you when it comes to paint. I will do me. :D

Anyone with good due diligence will look at the vehicle history……..aka CarFax.
we have a poster in this thread who works for the family Ford dealership. He says some repairs do not need to be reported and are routinely fixed on untitled units before selling the vehicle. I have no reason to doubt him, and if I understand it correctly not ALL repairs would show up on a Carfax report. This is why I brought up the Carfax report early in this thread to see how it works in a situation like OP experienced and possible later affect from Carfax report on resale value.

I don’t know fully where Carfax gets their info, but I’d guess insurance companies report any time they pay out

No chance it’ll be a dealer unreported repair, no way the dealer wouldn’t want to get paid

I think it would be tough to sell a repaired/tainted truck for a premium

Well unless someone just can’t wait and gets excited to not pay an ADM

Quite possibly but I would certainly not want to buy a new vehicle with 5 miles on it that had been in a collision of any kind. That appears to be a few thousand dollars of damage when all is said and done. Who knows what lies beneath.

It's who owns the vehicle that's important.......not whose driving. The owners insurance covers damages. This sounds like the dealers problem.
As I understand the insurance company insures the vehicle not the owner nor the driver. The driver can take a claim on his policy as it would become insured on his policy when he took possession not necessarily ownership and the driver has several days to provide the vin etc to his ins agent. Then the drivers insurance will arrive at a mutually acceptable as to the dealerships insurance companies amount due. Whether all, part or none.

So you're saying that a really good paint tech, working in top conditions, is better than the factory paint?
I have no reason to doubt you.

Do you think that the dealer in this instance will be getting that type of job?

In my experience, working at dealerships... they develop a relationship with one body shop. From most of what I saw, that relationship was not based on the impeccable quality. It was based on price, and perhaps a willingness to kick back something to the service and used car managers.

After waiting 11 months and 1 day, my Maverick Hybrid XLT was ready for me. It was beautiful, had 3.4 miles on it. The salesman suggested I take it for a drive while he finished getting the paperwork together. My wife and I went down the nearby freeway to the next exit and turned around to come back to the dealership. I stopped at a yield sign on the service road (less than 1/2 mile from dealership) and was rear ended by a kid in a jeep. Bumper, tailgate and bed wrinkled. Fortunately the kid has insurance. So the Maverick I ordered is in the body shop with 8 miles on it.

But here is where I need advice from this forum... I haven't signed anything yet to take possession. So I thought the dealer would pursue the insurance claim, but they think I should do this since it is my order. Can I even collect insurance for repairs on a car that was not titled to me? Should I be paying full MSRP on a car that has been in an accident and the trade-in value is diminished? Or should I wait until after it is repaired and test drive it again before taking it?

We were so close to the dealership that we drove into their lot and exchanged information. The person that hit me admitted fault in front of the salesman. But the salesman wanted nothing to do with collecting information.

So my question is - should I be filing the claim against their insurance company or should the dealer be filing the claim?
From the link I included previously. You should report the accident to the police and your insurance company. The dealer should file the claim with the at fault persons insurance.

I would say it depends on how the dealer was treating you, were you getting this Maverick at msrp without adms & unwanted extras, I would take the vehicle providing the damage is minor. Insurance can be tricky, before I picked mine up I already called my insurance with VIN & said I will be picking it up on a specific date I want to be covered when I leave the dealership. So again if your dealership & salesman were treating you fairly, work with them, & remember you waited 11 months for the Maverick, do you want to wait another 11?

Any insurance claim for anything goes into a nationwide database complete with damage reports what's paid or not paid for, etc. On any subsequent event that data is accessable including any pictures, etc. My son just processed a roof hail claim that was made on a 25+year old roof. He figured up the replacement costs and deducted the amount the owner was paid for the prior THREE claims. Said balance was well below the insureds deductable.
