The dealer still has to pay Ford full value for it. It looks like fairly minor damaged that can be repaired. Obviously, if the damage is structural, that is a different issue.

Every state has a different law about what is "disclosable" damage on a new vehicle. It can be $ amount or % of MSRP. Huge differences between states' laws here.

If the damage is minor enough that it doesn't have to be disclosed, it is unlikely that the dealer will discount the vehicle.
Was just offering up an idea to be able to drive something that had been on order for such a long time

Seems like the guy at fault should fix it.

What's interesting in this case, is no one commented on the structure of the vehicle; I am not faulting anyone - I certainly don't have the answer - but is this something that can be fixed without the vehicle's structure being significantly compromised? I don't know...

Point two is that if the buyer was set to pick up the vehicle to accept delivery, he already got insurance on the vehicle, which complicates matters.

I'm sorry that this happened to the OP...it will get straightened out, but I am sorry that it happened.

I think you should refuse to accept liability for damages and have an attorney on standby

I would buy it and fix it. Then if you don't feel good about it sell it and make money. Also you may have a little leverage for a discount from the dealer right now because they don't want to deal with it. I think they would have to disclose the accident to a buyer. Ask them for 1k or more off sticker to take it.

Let them fix it and negotiate down based on the diminished value. Get a mostly new truck for cheap.

what if you never knew it was a wrecked car?
Yeah, the one y bought could have been damaged in transit, and repaired. If it was not reportable in your state, you’d never know about it.

This type of repair will definitely affect your resale value as it would likely show up on a Carfax or similar report. If possible I would wait for another one or demand a substantial deduction to compensate for the reduced resale value that you will be faced with.

I would walk away. When it comes time to sell it , the CARFAX will show the accident lessening the resale. Walk.

Waiting on a quote from the body shop
Thanks for the update. I’m gonna guess $5000 for the repair.

Did you sign the paperwork to take legal ownership? Have you gotten any indication who’s going to pay the claim?

So sorry for your trouble on this……

Personally, I'm planning to keep my Maverick (if it ever gets here) for 10+ years if it's in good shape. At that point the the fact that it was in a fender bender will be negligible.

Conversely, if you buy it and decide it's not your long-term vehicle, you could sell it within a year and still make way more than you paid even with a blemished Carfax.

If they guarantee there's no frame damage, there's no way I'm letting a fender bender keep me from buying a truck I waited 11 months for. No way.

This is a good question that I did not see asked or mentioned. Did the OP already have a policy in place on this vehicle at the time of accident (regardless of ownership being transferred). To my knowledge you can't have two policies on the same vehicle at the same time, so that does indeed muddy the waters if it were the case.

Years ago State Farm lost a class action law suit for not paying people the lost value of their vehicle in an accident. So if a car worth $10k was in an accident with $5k damage, and ended up worth $9k, State Farm should have paid the $5k to fix it and the $1k in diminished value.

If they do that with your truck, take the $1k and stick it in Apple stock, and when you're ready to sell, you'll have $2k-$4k extra depending on how long you hold the stock. Historically Apple stock doubles every few years or so. With stocks WAY down, now is the best time to buy a solid stock like Apple.
