How did the new sub compare to the B&O one? Is the old one still hooked up and playing at the same time as the new?

Don't wish for that. You'll spend thousands upgrading everything you own. 😂
Yeah, this isn't even that crazy from the budget perspective grabbing scratch and dent deals. Under $600 not including the Pioneer amp which I've had for a while.

So all in all, the door speakers were a little different, rear speakers were basically the same, and an extra 12.5 watt speaker equals 600+ watt rating....... I smell marketing BS. The truth about the B&O is that you get a little more lower end and some fancy audio processing in the amplifier.

What size is the tweeter?
Externally the same as the regular ones. Nominally about 1-9/16" not including the slight flange and locating protrusions. They're a slightly different design though. Probably a bit higher output and the impedence change to go with being directly driven by the amp.

Here's the center speaker mounting area with the (slightly circumcised) MB Quart installed. I wouldn't be surprised if lower trims have this mounting location but the dash cover just isn't cut out since it's otherwise the same just the grille snaps on top.

So the front grille just "snaps"? No screws or any special technique for removal? Just pry upwards? Thank you.

did you treat your door panels to prevent rattling from the door speakers? im having some trouble with the door panels "clicking" (plastic touching the metal) when certain freqencies play
Yes, similar coverage to the big XLT speaker install thread. Much of the door card and a few sections of the black door plate. I did the door speakers quick on my lunch break so I didn't dig into removing the door plate to go full on lining the door interior proper.

How did the new sub compare to the B&O one? Is the old one still hooked up and playing at the same time as the new?
Pretty different leagues of power. The 10" delivers much more physical presence. I'm quite satisfied with this subwoofer than the bigger 12" box I had in my Fusion; much tighter response. I left the original subwoofer since it sort of covers the size/frequency range between the 6" woofers and 10" sub. That and I'd feel a little bad relegating the B&O amp to just a glorified DAC. Hah.

Not much to look at since it's downfiring.

Any chance of that fitting behind the seat? I'm assuming not.

No. It took some planning just to fit the Pioneer amp. There's not much room to spare with the B&O amp, sub, rear window motor, and rear keyless antenna module already back there. I actually relocated the antenna module to the reverse side of its bracket so I could use it to support the amp panel.

In retrospect the Key mounted at the bottom there isn't entirely ideal. I needed to reverse the roadside jack mount.

I wonder how hard would it be to take out the storage box under the rear seat completely. I bet it would fit under the rear seat if that stuff would come out. I would rather have a nice flat space under there anyways.

I believe the plastic parts of the storage all just clip in. A few folks here have removed it to fit various subwoofer enclosures already.

Thanks Darnon for the write up. I enjoy seeing all the components and the various upgrades folks such as yourself make. It can quickly turn into an expensive rabbit hole. Sounds like you used some common sense. :)

Personally for me the B&O system hits the sweet spot. I have generally always spent money to upgrade my stock system, but not this time. I am content and it gets the job done for my commutes and occasional travels.

Wait. You’re saying the “stock” system or the 500A /
Upgraded B&O? I can’t imagine the B&O luxury package speakers are not up to standard. B&O puts their speakers in the high end luxury cars like Audi, Aston Martin, Lambo, etc. if it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for Ford! 🤣
