Full size spare tire, Matching?

Setting aside spare size for the moment, is anyone worried the location of the spare? Seems like it has zero protection from the elements/road salt and will eventually get rusted to all hell.

It will rust and eventually not be able to wind down to remove it from the hanger. It happens on basically every pickup and full size SUV if you live in the salt belt.

Kinda makes the Ridgeline look even better, with its spare being in between the liner and underside of the truck...

My argument for always wanting a matching rim and same exact tire is I prefer to do a 5 tire rotation every 6 months. Fortunately in my area, a LOT of truck owners don't like the factory rims and put after market on leaving a garage full of original low mileage take offs. Eventually end up on local sale in FB or Craigs list between $150~$300 per tire rim with TPS still inside

I went ahead and replaced all 5 tires on mine so they all match. I plan to buy a matching wheel before I do a rotation. Hopefully a matching wheel will fit face up to protect it from the road at least a little.

Until you realize that spare donut is a 165 width...and you probably can't fit anything close to a 225/235/245 width in there.

Thank you! I just got a hold of my dealer and let them know it was in production and I tried to be proactive so they wouldn't add all kinds of worthless extra crap like Vin etching, fabric protector, and the never needed nitrogen.... But I went ahead and threw them a bone, said hey how much would it cost to get a matching rim and tire as as a spare, and they're going to get back with me. Of course there is now the question of will a matching rim and tire fit in the spare tire holder...
The nail sucks, hopefully it's fixable. Thanks for getting back with me, greatly appreciated.

What happens when you have the bed completely full? You have to offload it to get to the spare.

Are you worried about the location of your other 4 tires that drive you through dirt, rain, snow, salt etc?

Looks like all Mavericks come with two different spare tires:

1. a space saver spare tire, donut, or temporary tire, size T155/70D17
2. If you purchase a hybrid or pay extra for a so called "Full Size Spare" surprise, the size is 215/60R17 . This is not the same as the OEM tire/rim on any Maverick.

Please note, the spare does not have a Ford OEM TPMS factory sensor.
