But as a company, don't you think Ford would want people to not leave Ford and risk them not leaving the brand and not coming back?
Ford doesn’t care. Your dealer doesn’t care. Literally no one cares about what you do.

No.Does Ford care if you abandon your order?
I've been watching things unfold since I ordered (Oct 23rd) and I've been patient but things things have gotten worse, not better for my prospects of getting my Maverick. I'm still hopeful but I would agree that Ford could communicate better than they have. While I know that 11/15 is a lot more recent than some people have been waiting for their trucks, I was starting to get the feeling that I would not be getting a 2022 build date. I ordered an XL with spray in bedliner, 360, 4k tow, and a 'full' size spare and the dealer seems to not be getting any Mavericks. I got a call from a Chevy dealer I was talking to and they had a new Colorado Z71 which I snatched up over the weekend. I have no regrets about ordering the Maverick or the Chevy, I am actually kind of bummed because I still really like the Maverick, especially the gas mileage.
When I called Ford the not long ago the made it sound like my order would get built. The dealer had no idea one way or the other, they just kept guessing dates. The lack of communication around this process is astonishing. When I called to let my sales person know I didn't want the order, he wasn't surprised and when I said I was worried it wouldn't get built he said probably not. He also said they wouldn't have a problem selling it anyway which I am sure is 100% true. I know things are unprecedented right now but how did Ford not make adjustments to the process of allocating and scheduling after the Bronco Sport launch? This whole process has left a bad taste in my mouth about Ford. My wife has a Bronco Sport and we both love it but that was kind of a fluke that we fell into getting that. Does anyone else feel the same way? I am really hoping this doesn't become the norm when buying a new car.
EDIT - Just to add, the dealer I went through does not do market adjustments to jack up the price. Also, the only reason I bought a different truck was because I need to be able to pull a trailer and was worried I would not ever get a build date.
I don’t know what is going on, but I am seeing a lot of brand new Colorados since January around here. While I know that 11/15 is a lot more recent than some people have been waiting for their trucks, I was starting to get the feeling that I would not be getting a 2022 build date. I ordered my Lariat from a small town dealer as well. They don’t know about a build date, but reassure me they will hold the price as committed. I wonder if the small town rural dealers, while they sell less, get extra incentive from Ford.I'm still waiting for a build date and I ordered June 19. A couple months ago the dealer who has no clue said chances are I will not get my Lariat in MY 2022. It is a small town, mom and pop dealership. They sold it to me under msrp and I'm sure they soon realized they made a mistake. By holding me off they probably think they can get me to drop the order and when it does come in, sell it as stock for much more money. I hate to think of it in those terms since that is slimy but we all know dealers are not the most integrity minded individuals, profit being their only goal. I have not dropped the order although a few months ago I purchased a Ridgeline and it is the best purchase I've made. If the Maverick should ever come in I will make the decision at that time to drop it or buy it and resell at a profit to me, if the market is still hot and I think I can make a few grand on the turn around.
Samsung and Texas Instruments are two of them.I've been watching things unfold since I ordered (Oct 23rd) and I've been patient but things things have gotten worse, not better for my prospects of getting my Maverick. From what I've read, most automakers (with a few exceptions) canceled their chip contracts a few months into COVID because demand fell through the floor. That chip manufacturing capability was soon taken up by 'work from home' industries.
Now that demand for automobiles has ramped up again and 'work from home' is still big, automakers are having to rebuild relationships with chip makers whose capacities are stretched, and who themselves, have experienced outages (Japan's recent earthquake stopped four chip factories for a time).
There are three chip factories being built in the USA, (2 in Arizonia and 1 in Texas?) partly because of demand and partly because of China threatening Taiwan (where a lot of chips are made). Who is 'building' them, I don't know, but hopefully it is a chip maker and not just Elon musk for his own uses.![]()
If they're like the sleaze bags at Corwin Ford in Pasco WA, close to zero. They'll take your deposit and then make even more money, and they'll do it with a smile. My dealer has me on the hook with a $500 non-refundable deposit, but sold it to me $1k under MSRP.
I have only been waiting 160 days so far, so I am not yet ready to throw in the towel. Incidentally, last night I received by USPS a firearm component that I had ordered 752 days prior. It is possible the the universe is telling me my patience will be rewarded.
But if I do get to the point where order abandonment is the best way forward, I wonder what the chances are of me successfully negotiating my deposit back by pointing out that the dealership can make a heck of a lot more profit by selling over MSRP to someone else.
"The lack of communication around this process is astonishing." What are they supposed to be telling you???????????????? They don't even know when they will get the parts they need so how do expect them to tell you anything????????????????While I know that 11/15 is a lot more recent than some people have been waiting for their trucks, I was starting to get the feeling that I would not be getting a 2022 build date. Are the going to be making the types of chips that automakers use though? My understanding is they use outdated chips that have a low profit margin which is why they have trouble with ramping up capacity of the manufacturers.Samsung and Texas Instruments are two of them.
