For the "upright deflector", is this the sort of thing y'all are talking about? I'd be curious to know if that's a Ford accessory or some third party thing.

I stole the pic from the hot pepper red club thread, maybe that poster can answer the question about if it's a Ford accessory or not. Either way, it looks cool.
That one is a FORD accessory made by LUND.
I believe that hood deflector was discontinued because it was causing severe hood vibrations/shake at speed. Something about the turbulence caused by the hood deflector and the Maverick's hood not being very stout was causing some pretty nasty shake. You can find some videos on youtube.

I'm wondering this too.
These were great in the day when people would hand wash their trucks.

The problem was the drilling holes and cheap hardware would rust the edge of the hood. Also, any brush car wash would rip that thing off in a heartbeat. Now a days, gas mileage are the big buzz words and the lower the deflector the better the gas mileage.

What we need is a few early deflector buyers to volunteer to go through a brush or rotating rubber car wash.

Here you go:

We chose the "textured" hood protector, right off the Ford website, and it does have a lip. Hoping to deflect any rocks, as well as bugs. It matches the spray-in bedliner...!

From the Ford website:

(1.) Maverick 2022 Tailgate Assist
Part No: VNZ6Z99406A10A
$50.00

Associate Installation Product: VNZ6Z99406A10A-installed
Labor $40.00

(2) Maverick 2022 Lund Smoke Low Profile Side Window Deflectors
https://accessories.ford.com/products/smoke-low-profile-side-window-deflectors
Part No: VNZ6Z18246A
$89.00

Associated Installation Product: VNZ6Z18246A
Labor $30.00

(3.) Maverick 2022 Lund Aeroskin II Black Textured Hood Protector
Part No: VNZ6Z16C900C
$89.00

Associated Installation Product: VNZ6Z16C900C
Labor $30.00

The above is what we sent to our sales guy. He ordered them and the Service Dept. installed them. We were initially told that the tailgate assist would be fairly involved, so labor would come to about $125. We had been expecting our Maverick in January or at least February, so I bought my spouse snow tires for Christmas, and planned to have our local guy put those on and do the Ford brand front splash guards and rear mudflaps at the same time. But! Our Maverick got on Chip Hold and didn't arrive until March 17th. So, with the snows sitting in the garage now until next Autumn sometime, we brought the splash guards and mudflaps to the dealer to install, and expected labor to bump up to $140. So it was a sweet surprise when they charged us only $60 for doing everything!!

I want to put a deflector on the Maverick but I don't know much about them.

The stock one seems to mount with tape - can anyone verify?

I'd be much more inclined to get one that installs using existing mounting points instead of tape such as this one -

Anyone have info on these?
I've seen all the replies regarding taped on deflectors and also using a trim screw. I had a deflector on my '99 Ranger that sat clear of the hood by at least an inch and it atatched with 4 clips that simply slipped over the leading edge of the hood. Sat up to avoid many bugs and rocks, not a "hood bra" to protect paint, but did that too. I sold that truck recently, so can't show pics.

I got the lund aeroskin smoke hood protector. Installed it myself. I've gone through a rotating brush car wash several times and it still on there. I had a taped on window deflector on my car that I traded in. Ten years I had it and had gone through 100s of car washes. I get the unlimited plan. It was still on there when I traded it in.

That's the kind I'm waiting for. I've had one on my Sport Trac for 15 years. Minimal bugs and never had a rock hit the glass. Need one with that slight curvature on the upper edge .
Most hood defector's are there for only protecting the paint on the leading edge of the hood...I've been looking for one that deflects sand and bugs from the windshield.

Thanks for finding this hood deflector....it is what I was waiting for...it is the AVS brand that I had on my Range Rover/Discovery. Best hood deflector I've ever had, but had forgotten the name... Being more upright makes it work to protect the windshield. Like the prior one I had, the shield does not have any effect/contact with the visible paint.

Primarily ateached with hood clips from underneath the hood and supported with tape. If you ever remove the shield, the tape adhesive easily comes off with a little "rubbing compound". A little 3M glue to wax off is nothing compared to paint being sanded off with sand and tiny gravel blown up from the road….the Maverick’s soft paint is another subject…..

Ordered a few minutes ago for $64+Free Shipping. Will report back when installed.

So far I have yet to find a bug & stone deflector that isn't attached with tape for the Mav. I have written to Aeroskin and WeatherTech and they usually have a version that attaches to the weatherstripping pins on the bottom of the hood but so far nothing and I think the weatherstripping under the hood it 3M tape attached as well. I have been looking at the screws in the plastic on the top of the grill but I don't know if there would be sufficient strength with them even if the hood is pressing on the deflector supports. Same with the side window wind deflectors. WeatherTech makes a great in-channel wind deflector, I had a set on my '19 Escape and they were great, but so far nothing but the tape on plastic crap for the Maverick.

Have not looked yet, but the vehicle manufacturer may or may not provide a little metal lip under the hood to attach metal or plastic clips to attach a deflector to.

My Honda Element has a lip underneath the hood and even provided screw holes for attaching a hood deflector…Ford may not have provided such a lip for deflectors to attach to.…if that is the case an adhesive strip may be the only logical course for hood deflector manufacturers….AVS mentioned above, uses both a clip and adhesive tape to attach the deflector. A $19,995 truck was made available by cutting a few corners and pretty minimalist and soft paint material.

This is the front lip of the weather strip on the underside of the hood. The first picture shows an aqua-colored plastic T-clip that secures the end of the strip to the hood and it goes into a hole that is approx 2.5 mm diameter with about 5 mm of depth behind the hole.
The second picture shows how the hood is formed with the stripping behind the lip about three inches. Sorry for the crappy pictures but I wanted to show you what I have seen.
It may be possible to take the weather stripping off and form a piece of smoked acrylic around the hood and secure it with some screws into some blind nutserts but I am not sure I want to try forming a 5-foot piece of acrylic to cover the end of the fenders and hood lip. I may need to do it if someone doesn't get the form done soon. I need to drive from southwest Idaho to western Wisconsin in a couple of months during pothole filing season.

Have you noticed any of the reported hood shake with the Aeroskin II? If I get a deflector, it’s gotta be that one because of the look and texture. But if it causes issues, especially at highway speeds, I’ll just do without.

We have seen a *slight* shake when driving over 70mph. We'll probably add some dampening under the hood.

(It still beats taking a rock in the windshield.)

Just put the Aeroskin I hood protector on today. Love how it looks. Was worried cause I accidentally put the glue stuff down on an area the protector didn't cover but it came right off no problem.

Do I really have to wait 24 hours before driving it though? That's what the instructions suggested, don't drive for 24, no auto car washes for 72 hours. Not sure how serious I need to take that.

I installed mine early evening while it was still daylight and then didn't drive it till the next day. Surely wasn't 24 hours, but more like 14 hours.
