Looking for input on is it worth having the strut assists for the tailgate and the hood. Seems plausible, but not really necessary, just like Door Window Deflectors.

> Ford Accessory: Tailgate Assist is on eternal backorder and DeeZee does not list it (haha, like DUH!)

> MRT has hood struts for $138 (standard black finish), or $198 for color (+$60 more)

@LeersMav , both are worth it if YOU want the convenience they provide.

I'm probably going to get the hood struts because I like the convenience of just lifting the hood and not having to fuss with the prop rod. Conversely, I'm not going to get the tailgate assist because I would prefer to have the tailgate tie-down cleat which has to be removed to use the assist. The tailgate ain't that heavy on this small truck.

Others will do it differently. Get them if you want them. Your truck, your mods. I think having the option is great and allows you some uniqueness to your truck.

I can appreciate vendors making them available but I don't need either one. Tailgate is light and when we open the hood the prop rod is handy and a lot of people rarely open the hood anyway.

The hood strut is way to pricey for me to see value in it. They usually need replacing in 5 years too. I will wait tell I need to be under hood more often.

Now if your getting an oil catch can, plan to do your own oil changes, and/or some cool EcoBoost mods.. I could see some value in it. Not necessarily $140 worth…but you might.

The tailgate assist serves a purpose everyday and is cheap. 🏆 I bought the Ford one here.

We have both installed on our Mav and don't regret either purchase. IMO both give the Mav a more "premium" look and feel. Do you need either one to enjoy the Mav? Nope, of course not but sometimes it's not always about needs......sometimes it's nice to have wants as well.

I have the tailgate strut. I'd consider the hood struts at $99

The hood struts are too pricey for the use you would get from them. I also have a concern about the amount of flex that lightweight aluminum hood has. Might bend when those hood struts are used.
Tailgate assist makes sense and for the money I will go with those when my truck gets here.

The tailgate is lightweight and easy to open & close, so I don't need assistance.

The hood is also lightweight and easy to open and prop up with the *free* arm, so I don't need assistance with that either.

But I can see why some people like these extra gizmos. They add a bit of smoothness that is appealing.

I don't see how the hood struts are worth anywhere near $140. That's kinda nuts to me. How often are you even under the hood? How hard is it to use the prop arm?
Fact is, it's a very minor inconvenience.

Ouch. I just replaced the ones on my 2005 Sport Trac for $25 from Amazon.
