I'm just thinking of how long it took to get the airbags on my 04 Ranger replaced and those were safety items that had the potential to kill me if they went off! I waited years to get them replaced! I can only imagine how long I would have to wait for a module for a Lux feature on my Maverick! Then I think there's also going to be other factors causing long wait times for the modules. One is the same issue we face now, bigger dealerships will get parts ahead of smaller dealerships. The other is modules being diverted to vehicles with bigger profits. I think Ford is going to be more concerned about making sure the F150 Lightning is getting everything it needs along with the MachE and now a whole EV department to compete with! Finishing partially built Mavericks probably won't figure high on the "to do" list at Ford.

Ford will sell partially built vehicles awaiting chips or related components that control non-safety critical features, it told dealers today.

Dealers will get the missing chips within 1 year to install on the already-sold vehicles, Ford said.

news story:

DETROIT – Amid an ongoing chip shortage, Ford is reportedly planning to ship and sell vehicles without certain non-critical chips as the automaker deals with a pile of unfinished vehicles.

Automotive News reports that Ford told dealerships on Saturday that they plan to sell vehicles without chips for some non-safety features, with plans to install them in the already-sold cars within a year.

Ford, like other automakers, has been dealing with a shortage of semiconductor microchips, and have a growing inventory of vehicles waiting for chips.

Ford isn’t the first to eliminate some chip-powered features. GM temporarily dropped heated seats in some models earlier this year.
I am okay with this. I am getting a basic XL hybrid and am getting tired of waiting for it! Ordered mine last August and still haven’t heard a word on when it will ever get built!! I would happily take possession of a non critical chip truck!!

I have a question. I keep hearing there are lots full of vehicles waiting on chips. Whose vehicles are these? Are they the dealers? Are they builds that were built, i.e. a build date was given to the buyer, and they are just sitting there waiting for chips. Or has Ford decided to not build Maverick unless they can build them complete up to now? I recently read another post on this forum about how Ford will likely only produce 1/3 of the vehicles they expected to build this model year. Is this Ford's solution to this? Have they been building Mavericks without contacting buyers because they know chips will cause a delay in shipping? Which means they could drastically increase the number of sold units over the next few months as long as buyers understand the vehicles are incomplete and they will make them complete over the next year.

I ordered a Hybrid XLT late. Early October of 2021. I see them scheduling builds for May, and I am starting to get concerned my build will get cancelled. I have not heard anything from the dealer yet about making modifications to my order, so I have begun looking into similar builds available at dealers
Depending on what options you have you may be a little late to the game. My 6/10 Hybrid has still had no movement. Hurry up and wait, hope for the best. GOOD LUCK.

Exactly. I would NOT! It's bad enough waiting for the truck in the first place. Imagine the annoyance of EVERY DAY driving a truck you know is INCOMPLETE and you know at this point, Ford has already taken your money and there is literally nothing you can do to make them get the chips to you. Sounds terrible!

I mean, in that case, I'd much rather have a COMPLETE, stripped down XL than a Lariat with no heated seats, no bedliner and no CoPilot 360. I just can't imagine paying for all those things and driving off the lot without them.

I will say this: the more you see of this "chip shortage" at Ford, the less there is to like.
Well, that takes me out of the M23 ordering. Really bad time to buy a car/truck. Maybe M25. I can get another 100k miles on my 2002 4runner. DARN!

I would check again. Something is terribly wrong with your order unless you ordered from one of those dealers offering $3,000 under invoice with very few allotments.

Might be worth looking at the module list to see what actually could be left out. This is the known module list from another post where some of the guys have been diligently scanning built Mavericks using Forscan.

Many of these modules are essential for driving the vehicle (eg PCM) or mandatory safety functions (eg RCM) and could not be removed.

That leaves few options that could be safely left out, stuff like door modules (DDM/PDM), keyless entry (RTM), wireless charging (WACM) or parking aids (PAM). Some of the biggies for CP360 would be the IPMA (which must contain a big processor) and SODL/R modules.

Other than those few, what else could be left out from a practical or legal compliance perspective? This initiative may be more suited to high spec F150s, which are loaded with additional gadgets.
Do you know if IPMA would also be needed for back-up camera which is a required safety feature by law.

Exactly, and the customer that wanted/need the features are left in limbo for who knows how long. Someone’s missing chip will be fords last concern, their focus rightfully will be new sales

It's basically a temperature controller to prevent your butt from frying while going down the road.
Just didn't see any module relating to that or the heated steering wheel in the list, so was not sure why people seem to think it's a thing.

Who do you think is doing it at the factory in Mexico?
A rocket scientist?🤔
No, but they both specialize in different things. Perhaps I am misinformed about how tough it would be to put these things in after the build is done.

Might be ok for some, my XLT FX4 needs less chips so maybe I will move up in production?

No telling what you'll get and not get on your new truck. Do they reduce the price for the features you paid for not working or having an unknown get well date? Think I'd have to tell them to call me when my truck was 100%.

God I'm glad I canceled my order back in December!!!

No, the IPMA is an image processing module with a front facing camera… needed for lane keeping and other similar functions where it has to analyse an image.

The backup camera is just a simple video camera.
