That is a good point! I could see how an insurance company might try to twist the fact the Maverick wasn't a complete vehicle and therefore not pay full value or even trying to say Ford was responsible for the accident.
I would rebate the value of the missing feature and then ask you to re purchase it when the part comes in. That's the only way

Might be worth looking at the module list to see what actually could be left out. This is the known module list from another post where some of the guys have been diligently scanning built Mavericks using Forscan.

Ford Maverick Ford will sell & deliver Mavericks without chips controlling non-safety critical features 1647192977608

Many of these modules are essential for driving the vehicle (eg PCM) or mandatory safety functions (eg RCM) and could not be removed.

That leaves few options that could be safely left out, stuff like door modules (DDM/PDM), keyless entry (RTM), wireless charging (WACM) or parking aids (PAM). Some of the biggies for CP360 would be the IPMA (which must contain a big processor) and SODL/R modules.

Other than those few, what else could be left out from a practical or legal compliance perspective? This initiative may be more suited to high spec F150s, which are loaded with additional gadgets.

1000% Agree
I am a Chef and we are still seeing lots of supply chain issues with food, I work in tech sector (ie. Chip makers like Qualcomm5g) the company's that design the chips are struggling to convince ppl to return to campus...
Everyone will go back to work soon with 10% inflation and running out of money. I will even be happy with my current job which I'm not thrilled with today..... Already thinking how lucky I am to have a job.

They make these chips sound like they're as easy to install as a fuse...and I highly doubt that.

I sure wouldn't want some lube tech getting paid peanuts installing the rest tod my vehicle at an unknown date in the future.

Ford isn’t only company doing this. I have a C8 on order currently and Chevrolet is building C8’s without rear park assist parts to be installed later due to chip shortages.

I am all in favor of deleting the start - stop feature its a waist and use the chips else ware . That is one stupid feature .
Sadly that feature is embedded in the PCM software so it can’t be removed. Worse, it seems it can’t be turned off with configuration changes either (so far).

Pretty sure auto start-stop will win the “most annoying feature ever“ award.

Can somebody explain why heated seats would need a chip? Seems to me It's simply a high/low/off switch to a carbon fiber element.
It's basically a temperature controller to prevent your butt from frying while going down the road.

Depends on where these chips are located and if they have to dismantle much. Risking rattles or broken clips.

I would imagine they should make them relatively accessible, but I dont know.

The ethical thing for Ford to do would be to offer discounts for the promised features that aren't working on delivery. I expect, though, that they'll want me to go ahead and pay full price up front.

If these truly are non-essential features and we get a discount because they aren't provided initially, we may decide after driving our Mavericks for three months or so that we didn't really need them anyway.

If we have to pay for those features up front, though, most customers are just going to resent the delays and Ford in general for failing to handle it better.

A rocket scientist?🤔

I would give up that extra half mile per gallon just to stop that engine from starting and stopping. My son installed a module in his Transit Van to stop that nonsense, because starting and stopping a engine causes excessive engine wear.
