I did my first fill-up yesterday when I was at the nominal 10mi to empty according to the dash. During fill up the automatic stop kicked off at 7.5 gallons for some reason. I started pumping again and it stopped at 13.47 gals. I wonder why it tripped the stop at 7.5 gallons? Just curious if anyone knows how those things work.

Anyway, my computer estimated me at just over 33mpg since leaving the dealership, and hand calculation puts me somewhere right around 33 as well. My next fillup will be more accurate but I'm glad to see the dash estimate being pretty close in my case. I've got lots of very short cold start commutes making up my mileage, so that's why my mpg is relatively low.

How about realistic suggestion?

The scale would have to be at the pump

And the MAXIMUM difference between a completely full and completely empty tank is 82.8 pounds. A typical scale that can weigh a vehicle would not be accurate to even 3 pounds, and thus would be off by half a gallon minimum

If we are going to include absurd unrealistic options, then you would want to create your own tank of known volume/weight and then measure the volume used or weight of fuel used.
Im with you on this,, were not launching a space shuttle here,, put the slide rules away, and just give us a half way decent IDEA of what you mileage is. Most would be concerned about highway verses city driving. K.I.S.,S. for pete's sake,,,

" I wish I was getting better mileage. I have a Hybrid XLT and after 2500 miles I am Averaging 36 MPG "
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE!!!!!!

I would suggest weighing the vehicle before and after a fill up. This confirms how much fuel is added. Once ready to fill up weigh again. Confirming how much is burned off. Weigh the truck while empty or with the exact set up as before. Also weigh it on the same scale if possible.
Well what is the equation for the weight of the amount of rubber worn off the tires and the wiper fluid depletion and the amount of snow and debris in the truck bed and the amount of bug body parts in the radiator grill and on the windshield? Too many variables to get the exact number I guess. Oh geez, I forgot the gravitational pull when depending on the distance from Moon/Sun probably would have an effect too. LOL of course!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I filled up last week, as I was getting close to full I slowed down the gas flow. When it clicked off I was surprised that it took over 16 gallons on the first click. I thought the pump was off calibration but after reading this by slowing the flow it must have let more gas in before it clicked off. This forum is very helpful. I live in a mountainous area so it's hard to stay in the electric zone and I don't want to slow down traffic all around me. I'm sure in a rural area you could get these crazy numbers but I'm topping out at 600 so far.

Holup, that really seems impossible that there are nearly 3 extra gallons (2.5?) in your tank compared to spec. Could there be another explanation?

Snowbird......Mileage to Alabama and beyond 800 MILE TANK
Maverick XLT CYBER ORANGE MOON ROOF LUXURY PKG TRIFOlD COVER 2.5L HYBRID FWD. Deliver 1/25/22

Absolute mileage....worked in quality 25 years collecting data.....left Mi 2° on 2-5-22 OD 587 mi. arrived Al 60° on 2-6-22 OD 1620 mi. 1033 mi highway 33.54 gal. = 30.79 MPG. Next fill up top off @ walmart in Gulf Shores on 2-22-22.......had to do a few laps in the parking lot to hit my target of 800 mi , warmer, gentle, local flat land driving, OD read 2420.2 Yieid was 46.81 MPG could not ask for more, most driving done inn eco mode for whatever that may mean.....Topping off the tank is a real pain nursing the tipoff for the last 2-3 gallons until it backs up and out of the tank fill tube......this is only way to get ABSOLUTE numbers......reading the gauge needle or indicated numbers on dash, or when the pump kicks off are ball park figures. Given an extended time frame of multiple fill ups on pump kicking off will allow the numbers to even out but you need to record all the data over a period of period time. Given the rising gas prices us hybrid owners could not be in a better position....I am 999% satisfied other than the speakers sound like a clock radio, but my hearing is getting bad anyway, sounds better when I have my hearing aids in, it is what it is !!!!!
When you fill a gas tank till till it backs up you risk destroying the evap canister! Happened to me gas gets into the cannister. Don't recommend that .

Try using the same gas station and the same pump as much as possible to be consistent if mpg is that important to you. When you basically follow the same pattern of miles covered and gas used over more than 200,000 miles on our different vehicles, your average mpg levels out pretty clearly. See the attached mpg on our 2018 KIA Niro LX.

I firmly believe that having a bed cover definitely improves the highway mileage.

I would install a fuel flow meter ,

I would install a fuel flow meter and once on the highway at a steady speed hit reset and go to the calculation of 6 pounds or 1 gallon and clock your mileage they are very easy to install

Oarwhat..I am just a technician and have ran your numbers a couple of times..48mpg x 13.5gallon tank doesn't go 800mpt?

Am I reading your post correctly? To get 800mpt with a 13.7gal tank you would have to do 58.4mpg?

Correct me if I am wrong..I thought I was the fuel economy king, I have a TDI Jetta diesel that pulls down these kinds of numbers highway but I have to pay 35% premium diesel fuel costs over RUG.

Pretty sure the old man doesn't know wtf he's talking about. OP post is one GD'd long run on sentence post. If grammar is difficult, I wouldn't trust him with numbers.

I like the response that this is not rocket science. I should have explained the difference between my terms of fill up and top off. You can make your own call on what constitutes your fill up ie 1 click, 2 clicks whatever you choose. All pumps are different when they kick off. How fast you fill affects the kick off. My terms fill up and top off is fill till it kicks off then top it off until it will take no more gas period. This a real pain but is how you get the most absolute values. Some have said the owner's manual advices against this but that is a different subject matter. Been doing it for 40 years and has never been an issue. I never claimed 48 mpg. What I failed to mention is that when I topped the tank off at 800 miles it took 17.09 gallons. This equates to the 46.81 mpg on this tank of gas.
