I actually saw a Santa Cruz in real life for the first time the other day (a little old lady was driving it, which was kinda funny for some reason). In my opinion, the SC looks much better in real life than through video or pics, its pretty neat. However, I'd still rather have my Maverick as it has a more traditional truck look, which is what drew me in, and offers what I need for the price.

As for the blind spot, the headrests in the Maverick are removable so that will help a lot with visibility. First day I get mine, I am taking them out. Don’t know if they come out in the Hyundai.
Under seat storage would be a good place for them.

I think the Maverick also looks much better in real life.

The Maverick looks like a truck. The Santa Cruz looks like the El Camino had a baby. For anyone out there who has still not seen a Maverick in person, you will not be disappointed when you see it. I parked my 2012 Chevy Colorado right next to one and there is hardly any difference in size. Maybe a few inches.
Please don't insult the El Camino.

Thanks... I have no idea why the Canadian put a "laughing" emoji to my write up... Simply would appreciate the opinion as to what was funny?
It's the Internet, where anonymous trolls provoke the thin-skinned. Nobody wins, but everyone gets an (un)healthy dose of self-righteous indignity.

Some perspective from someone who has bought both a Maverick and a Santa Cruz.

Editor’s note: I bought the SC thinking my Maverick order was pushed back to an 8 month build date from order..

Yes, the Maverick looks like a “Ford truck” which was an attraction.
Yes, the Maverick has a hybrid, and in these days of almost $4.00 a gallon gas was a huge selling point.
Yes, the Maverick has a comfortable price point.

Now the negatives…

The huge turn around time from order to receipt of vehicle from Ford (which in my case will be over 8 months) caused a need to get something as I sold my DD back near Thanksgiving.

The tech in the SC is HIGHLY SUPERIOR to the Maverick.(bought an SEL Premium model)

Yes, gas mileage in the SC is not awesome. Getting around 20MPG combined.

Styling? Not terrible. Doesn’t look like a Ford truck though.

Price was a bit higher than I wanted. But I rationalize it by knowing a got a lot more for my old car than I normally would have.

In hindsight, would I have panicked and went out and bought the SC knowing the build date on the Maverick got pushed ahead? Probably not. Also, Hyundai had this vehicle available for immediate purchase without any ADM.

Bottom line is I’ll be happy with both and the wife gets to drive a new Maverick to work knowing that the ICE most likely will never kick in. (Three miles each way, local street driving.)

Happy wife, happy life !

Saw both vehicles “in the wild” in last couple weeks. No doubt the Mav is truck and the Santa Cruz something else.
The taillights going across the tailgate make the back even less truck like.
For me it was cost and gas mileage, but much prefer the Mav styling as well.

The Santa Cruz is like a girl you only dated because of her ass. Everything else about her just isnt your taste. But she had junk in her truck or in the Santa Cruz case room for junk. There is nothing appealing to me about that car aside from the bed. Its as ugly as every other Hayundai, the interior is just as boring as every other modern car, its mileage/engine size/power output ratio is all whack, and even thought it has been out longer and is supposedly more available, I havent seen one. I have seen 4 mavericks in the wild and atleast 7 at the dealership. After I finally found the hayundai dealership which looked more like a rental lot than a dealership they had not Cruzs nor did they even look like they had what its based on.

I've done this in every car I've owned. Best mod you can do unless you have adult rear seat passengers on a regular basis. Never seen a car where they don't come out.

Since it's a hybrid, the ICE will kick in to keep the traction battery charged--even if the truck is only driven short distances at slow speeds. Hybrids are more efficient--but they still use gas for energy.

Thanks. Did not know that. Will need to get up to speed on Hybrid technology. But correct in assumption that the amount of gas used will be substantially less....

Yes, hybrids use less gas, especially with lots and stop-and-go (city driving).

The only hybrids that don't need to be gassed up for short strips are plug-in hybrids (PHEV), which can use electricity exclusively between charges. You need a charging station to recharge the battery. Their gas engines will only kick in once their batteries are depleted.

If you don't ever want to pay for gas again, all-electric vehicles (EV) are awesome. I've been commuting with an EV for 4 years now, and it's awesome. But I needed a truck as well, so I bought a hybrid Maverick. I'm looking forward to a PHEV or EV Maverick in the future!
