i would like to ask all, does anyone like the diel shift. i personally do not like it. so I am on a mission to see if there is a way to put a hand held shift like an f150. does anyone agree. thank you
I'm indifferent to the dial shifter. I've driven a lot of vehicles with various shifters, and really, they pretty much all do the same thing. I use a shifter to put my car in reverse to back out of my driveway. Then I shift into drive. Then I just live my life until I get to my destination, at which point I shift into park, turn off the car and get out. I can adapt to whatever I need to do to accomplish those three activities.

Isn’t that the opposite of “innovation?” Going back to the way things were?

I have not had a dial shift but I’m looking forward to it. It looks low and out of the way. Which is nice, since my dog has happily knocked my traditional shifter out of gear in my current vehicle.
While riding with me in front passenger seat my dog bumped the dial, shifting truck into neutral. I did not like all at once the engine speed changed, thought something was wrong. All this as I was making a left turn in a busy intersection. Dog now stays in back seat, no exceptions. I still try to find shifter every once and a while. Its just muscle memory. Had shifter center console for to many years.

I am coming from a Ram 1500 that had a dial shifter. The only problem is muscle memory has me turning up the fan instead of putting it in drive.

Hate it - mostly because it's in a terrible location. A physical level shifter in the same location is less likely to have issues due to spills, dirt, debris. I believe these knobs are going to wear out and have problems in the future.

I also just prefer the old school shifter on the column. Didn't have to glance down.

Zero issues with the same shifter as used in our Bronco Sport. Just wish there were paddle shifters to allow for hands-free downshifting.

Give it a week or two and you won't even notice. I go from my Mustang, which is a six speed manual, to a 1990 Silverado, which has a shifter on the steering column, all the time. I make the switch without even thinking about it.

I don't like it, and I don't even have my Maverick yet. I'm used to driving manual transmissions. Having one hand resting on the shifter. If I could put a handle like the bronco has I probably would be ok with it.

I don't hate it, tho this is my first experience with one. I actually thought of this over 10 years ago, as I figured it would be a good way to free up a lot of space since a traditional lever can often be in the way of cup holders and HVAC controls.

I do wish it had a shape the allowed you to feel what gear it's in without looking, and also wish it had harder detents at P and D. But as a device to make better use of space, I think it works well.

I don't like the way the knob does not have stops, you can just keep turning it.

I can't imagine why a dial would be more susceptible to wear out that a digital shifter. Maybe if it bottomed out each end you could beat it to death by overturning, but since it spins forever you don't even have to worry about that.

The aftermarket hasn't caught up yet with this. a google search of "Aftermarket Ford rotary shifter" doesn't show much if anything. There is a B&M knob; I assume that someone will make something eventually. Also with the issues Jeep had a few years ago with their shifter, it might be risky to build something that could cause an accident or death. Look what happened to aftermarket steering wheels which were everywhere at one time, once airbags were mandated. The market dried up. As much as I like a shifter, I'll just have to ignore it on the CVT Maverick and shift my other manual car.

I honestly didn't expect to like the dial shifter. It just seemed weird somehow. At best I figured I'd be ambivalent, but surprisingly, I took an immediate liking to it. It's completely out of the way for one thing, and I like the way it feels. You don't have to carefully select each position. Reverse is one click to the right, and when you want "Drive", you just spin it all the way right without worrying where to stop.....it just keeps clicking once you've hit the end. Ditto going left to select "Park". Between that and the electric parking brake, it's all fingertip effortless, and feels very futuristic. I'm 100% sold!
