I love it. But then again, I am an ex valet driver who has been used to driving cars with dial shift knobs since 2015 or so. Dodge Rams have had them for a while too.

I've gotten used to it with the Bronco. The Bronco has 2 rotary dials to contend with. If I'd have any gripe. It would be with the missing center shifter. There isn't a place to rest my hand.

So when you are parked,D is at 3 o clock and when you are driving, D is at about 7 o clock ?
The letters are static. The little dashes underneath light up to indicate what "gear" you're in.

Call me an innovator I just like things the way I like. not that you are wrong you are 100% in the wright, but just looking at it bothers me. I'm so used to having my hand on the shifter.
That's what she said!

The dial shifter was the single thing that made me want a RAM (which I was actively shopping until I heard about the Maverick). If you think about it, the conventional shifter location is where it is because of manual transmissions and the linkages right there at the transmission. Nowadays almost no vehicles are even offered with "actual linkage" manuals, and so it makes absolutely zero sense to take up prime real estate used for storage or a work/eat surface while on the job. The F150 "sorta" got it with their shifting stalks that fold down when in park, but the RAM put a dial way up on the dash out of the way. The Maverick has the dial, but then they go and put it right back in the middle of prime real estate again? Cmooooooooon.....

Sidenote: technically a steering column shifter also makes sense in this same regard, but those things are a PITA because the travel is huge so K-turns etc are even more a chore than the dials are.

I do miss the tactile feedback of reaching over to check which gear I’m in without having to look.
I don't have mine yet but isn't there an indicator on the gauge cluster?

Lets be honest, if it isn't manual, it's not worth shifting. I'd do anything for a manual maverick.
Not really. Modern automatics that can be manually shifted are usually faster than a manual and still allow you to engine brake down hills. But without a doubt manuals are way more fun.

It would be cool if they did what the IONIQ 5 does:
