I got in my Mav, which I had remote started about 10 min earlier, and noticed the sulfur smell, so I hopped out and looked at my catalytic converter. This is what I found:

Follow up video with engine off 20 min later:

Truck was started with climate control set to max defrost. I've only noticed the smell with heat turned up high. Normally I set it to 60 degrees, and I don't have the problem, although I do get the weird revving engine sound while it's running after being remote started.

What do I do next? Is Ford going to do a recall, or do people's homes need to burn down first?

This particular issue is becoming a bigger concern for me, especially since Ford does not seem to be acknowledging or addressing it. Lots of people experiencing this, lots of people guessing whats wrong and how to fix.

Maybe buying a 1st year model was not a good idea....

Yikes, glad you got some videos of the issue in action. FoMoCo is on this forum. Hopefully they see this thread and address it. Anyone savvy enough to try and tag them?

Thanks for posting good videos. I’ve heard of this happening on a few hybrids while using remote start. Obviously you have some repairs that need to be done free of charge. There could be a hardware recall but I think a software update would be sufficient to stop this from happening.

Can do.
@Ford Motor Company whats the verdict? No need for private messages. We all want to know here.

Is this Ford pass remote start or with the FOB?

I’ve always been nervous about using remote start, and this is unfortunately reinforcing my greatest fears.

Ford Pass, but to be clear, this isn't a remote start issue. Letting the engine idle while parked with the key in ignition will cause it as well.

Ford legal team will advise on which is cheaper, but still probably put it off as long as possible because it will mean more delays and they already have parts shortages.

If most of us on the forum know about this from multiple people documenting this on youtube alone, Ford certainly already does as well.

This has been cropping up on here more than enough times to warrant an answer from Ford - the silence is concerning. Is it unique to the hybrids, or do the EB models do it as well?

Hybrid only. The EB engine doesn't have the cat attached to the engine for one, and should have no trouble heating the cab since it's not running in electric mode while parked.
