I dunno about that. I would beg to differ. I have a 1994 chevy silverado I bought new and have taken good care of. I would not hesitate to take it on a 3 hour trip. That truck is 28 years old, still has the original engine, clutch and transmission. None of it has ever been apart.

Toyotas had that reputation of being built solid like that. Other manufacturers have caught on. Also a lot of how long a vehicle lasts is also the result of maintenance or lack of it.

Turbo engines require fastidious maintenance. Most people wont do that because they dont understand turbos. I used to drive a dodge Daytona shelby years ago. I sold it with a lot of miles on it. 2.2 turbo ll. The turbo still worked fine at 160K, no issues with the bottom end. I used to run it hard, but used to keep it well maintained including oil and filter changes frequently with synthetic oil. I will be doing the same with the maverick after break in.
How many miles on the truck, you never mentioned that.

Still I wouldent own a toyota. I remember how badly those things rusted out in the 70s thru the 90s.
You never owned a 1970-1989 Ford? Must not have if you are going to buy a maverick either then

Current models are already rusting on Maui. The rockers and floorboards are starting to go on the last generation. My 91 comanche has towed 5 tacos in 4 years. I did see a 2003 Tundra listed for $31,000 with 106k on it yesterday. Over rated over valued cant convince me bcause I dont give a crap. Also I will take any car that has its basic functions across country, especially if it was built with a frame or rwd. Never had a breakdown on a roadtrip I couldnt fix with fluids or zip ties.

The thing about the 160K on this 94 chevy and it's never been apart, is that it's from an era when everybody said US car companies made junk. This one was built at the Pontiac Michigan truck plant. Was a special order by me. A loaded silverado with a 350, and a 5 speed manual. Its 28 years old and has zero rust holes or rust thru anywhere on it. I took the bed off with my chain hoist to change the fuel pump. Power washed the frame. Its solid as can be with only very light surface rust.

Its solid enough that if the engine ever wears out, I will just put another engine in it. Roof paint is showing its age, but the rest is original paint. GM produced millions of these feom 1988 to 1999 with no changes to the sheetmetal making replacement parts inexpensive and plentiful if ever needed. Y'all can keep them junk assed rust out prone overpriced repair parts toyotas. I will stick with what works and doesnt fall apart. Tacos are food, not a truck.

So I went to ohio last august and my brother loaned me his vehicles, he let me drive his last year for the manual vette and that was sweet, but for gettig around he gave me his 2015 v6 camaro, his 2018 caddillac 2.0t, and his 92 chevy 305 longbed that we used to tow his race car to the track with for 7 years back in the 2000s after he sold his 78 MonteCarlo tow vehicle.
Before i left he asked me what liked best and I told him aside from the vette which was sweet on my old country roads. That I prefered the old truck. It was the most comfortable, the most solid, and made me feel like there wasnt a chance it was going to get away from me. Im hoping the cheap simple Maverick instills some of that in my when I finally get to drive it.

I'm betting the maverick will. My brother has a high mileage 1996 dodge 1500 4x4. Same thing. That truck is solid. He had a toyota before that. Effing thing rusted apart. I'm buying mine to be a nice daily driver with an extra large trunk.

I talked about a Toyota once in this forum. They went crazy. Be careful
Well we can't really talk about our Mavs yet...

The only reason I would even consider getting a Maverick is because I have my Tacoma for real work. 😀
