Narts. I went in and ordered right before the cutoff date in November, thinking I did a good thing. XLT lux package with a drop in liner. I don't need the truck until November, but I do need something by then because my lease is up on my current ride. Doesn't look too promising now....
You have not been scheduled so you can change your order.

You took my spot! 🤣 I just got an email moving from March 14 to 21. 🤷‍♂️
Received another email last night, (Sat) moved up a week from 3/7 to 2/28. Not changing any options, I’ll wait patiently 😁

My order, with all the "bad" options (Lariat lux, 4K, SIBL, moonroof, etc.), went in 10/15/21, scheduled the week of Feb 7, in production 1/27, built 1/29, est delivery 2/13. I can't get anything new on the tracking site and can't get ahold of my sales rep. So I have no idea where it is. Would it still be parked on the lot waiting for chips?

GM had announced they were not producing any vehicles other than high end models with heated seats, steering wheels or heated side mirrors.
Actually I didn’t get it from an article, I was watching some program on TV and this was mentioned. However, a quick google search will net you many articles about it.

Thanks. I didn't find the right articles because I understood your post as meaning GM was only producing high end models, which fit with a different theory -- that manufacturers were using the available chips on more profitable units and letting the others slide.

This article goes the opposite direction. I think now it was just a typo.

It's the weekend. Come Monday I will physically walk into the dealership.

I kind of THINK, with no knowledge that it is not just in comes a chip, pop it in and go. A lot depends on what the chip is, as it could be anything. I think it is more a board, or module. which is short the chip. To just pop a chip in would take a socket mounted on the board to accept it. I have to think they have cut costs everywhere they could which would include have the chip soldered on the board which safes the cost and space of the socket.
I see what you mean. I was thinking the opposite... that when they say they are "short of chips" it really means they don't have the module. And that when the modules finally come they could just pop them in.

I didn't occur to me that whoever makes the modules would ship them to Ford without the chips in them. I think my interpretation is more likely, but I don't have anything to back that up.

Of course, we're learning that being built doesn't really matter... Because apparently "shipping" (waiting for chips) can take months. 😐

Yep ask him to see Velocity report all he needs is your order number it will tell you exactly what you want to know. Want some comfort ? my Lariat eco was built on almost the same day ,it is shipped on Ford site, sales guy checked Velocity says it is sitting in IL.

My apologies if I took it the wrong way, but today is what we are talking about, not 40-50 years ago. The cost and the wait is much worse there.
But I wasn't talking about Europe at all. You made that connection, by assuming I was knocking capitalism.

I'm certain they mean "module" when they say "chip." There is no way that a tier-one module supplier is sending modules to Ford minus some particular "chip." I don't know of any high-volume automotive ECUs in the past dozen years or so that had field-installed micros - everything has been flash based.

The suppliers are contracted to deliver functional, tested modules to Ford, and the module supplier has a contractual warranty burden as well. No supplier will ship partial modules and be able to warrant them after someone else, even the OEM, performs rework.

Then what were you knocking with this comment. " All I could think of is price / profit. It's the way our society is driven. " We live in America under a Capitalist economy .

Great update Tim.

Thought you would want to know:
my June 25th Hybrid Lariat Lux that was originally scheduled for week of Feb 28 got moved 2 weeks ago to April 4th. I took off the roll-up bed cover last week and yesterday I got an email from Ford moving my order back to Feb 28th!!

Thanks for the advice!
Awesome to hear, check out the video we did about how to install the cover.

Telling older orders not to drop as they would get filled first assumes they are filling older orders first which we all know is not the case. Its a random roll of the dice for all. Anyone that ordered 6 months ago should have already gotten their truck.
meanwhile, going on 7mos...
