Pretty hard to video a smell though...

This is the best I was able to get.Unfortunately it sounds like someone needs to get some good video of it happening in order for Ford to have "proof."
Yep, I saw that video, but it doesn't really show the issue very well.Video at reddit
I mean there isnt a way to video a smell, and the revving isnt really that easy to capture either.Yep, I saw that video, but it doesn't really show the issue very well.
When I hear rotten eggs, I think of a battery being overcharged and boiling over, not an engine running rich situation. And with the starting battery under the back seat it would definitely fill the cabin with that gosh awful smell.
This appears to point the problem to the 12v charging system in the Hybrid when using remote start. I wonder if there is a software difference when the Hybrid is Readyed with the key vs remote start with the FordPass app?Well now, couldn't remote start this morning because the car was deader than a doornail this morning on the 12v battery. Had to jumpstart it.
Makes sense right?, but battery tested fine. Though it definately did die and it seems an awful big coincidence. This appears to point the problem to the 12v charging system in the Hybrid when using remote start. I was responding to the comment, "I'm more concerned you're remote starting at that warm of a morning...remote start is for 0 to -30F. " So no, we are not talking about "cold" mornings.ObViOuSlY we are talking about “cold” mornings.
Overcharging the 12v battery will cause the smell and even though it tested fine at the time it may have been damaged (swelling maybe) so over some time failed because of that.Makes sense right?, but battery tested fine. Though it definitely did die and it seems an awful big coincidence.
I dont think remote start on the key fob is standard, I can only do it via the fordpass. For those like me who do not have their hybrid Maverick yet, is there a remote start button on the key fob? Is this issue happening only when remote starting from the FordPass app or is it also happening when hitting the key fob button(if there is one)?
Ill try and get it to happen again, its just so random I never know when.Overcharging the 12v battery will cause the smell and even though it tested fine at the time it may have been damaged (swelling maybe) so over some time failed because of that.
If this ever happens again lift the back seat and the cover over the battery and check for a stronger smell in that area. As for testing the battery it may be a good idea to remove it and look for swelling.
XLT Luxury package specifically states "Key fob with remote start." This is without the push button start in the truck. Just wondering because I ordered XLT LUX.You can get the remote start option only if you have push button start. Otherwise it's only available on the Ford app.
Good to know. We weren't presented that option. I think the sales team was pretty new still and uninformed.XLT Luxury package specifically states "Key fob with remote start." This is without the push button start in the truck. Just wondering because I ordered XLT LUX.
I would love to know if it happens with someone who has a key fob version as I believe that is not acting the same way.Good to know. We weren't presented that option. I think the sales team was pretty new still and uninformed.
In either case my situation is from the app. Not sure if anyone with remotely starting from the key fob makes a difference.
yeah it's def some kind of software thing. Maybe cold weather related? If it was physical problem it would show up on normal starts.
