A number of Mavericks subject to recall have been sold. So someone who already has a Maverick subject to recall brings it in for inspection and the service department finds that the tank is should be replaced. The owner will have to leave the truck parked at the dealership until February?
That is my understanding from what I have read so far. My Maverick is under this recall and I don’t plan to bring it in for the inspection until I’m reasonably sure that Ford has a supply of replacement fuel tanks in stock. I don’t have any sign of fuel leakage or smell coming from the fuel tank area and so I feel safe enough to drive it for awhile before getting this recall performed.

if I had mine, I would do the same. Ford and the regulators have decided the trucks are safe enough to drive or the recall would be way more urgent.

So., then why was I called in to drop it off if it’s not urgent? Is it my dealer being extra cautious?

I can’t answer that. I shouldnt have been so flippant in my previous comment. Ford would prefer that all affected vehicles be inspected and those that don’t pass inspection sit idle for however long it takes to replace the tanks. As an owner I would need to know if I can still drive off with the vehicle if it has less than through wall damage. Some have mentioned a pressure test. If the tank is pressurized and blows out a partial penetration, then the truck obviously has to sit. I would want to understand what is happening before making an informed decision.

In my specific case, where i have not picked up the truck, the tank has not been pressure tested but the drill bit damaged it - not through wall. Ford won’t release it to me until the tank is replaced.

Oh, I agree. I don't want to be driving something that would be leaking fuel, or a car with a compromised gas tank that could cause major issues. I was just wondering since it does seem like it is a borderline major recall that could turn into a major issue. I just feel like my dealer had 0 concerns about mine being affected so, I'm just a little confused, but it seems like they're just talking without knowledge of who might actually be affected. They already checked out one other Mav and said that it passed inspection and he explained that their Pre-Delivery Inspection would have caught an issue like this. Having worked in car sales before, I know that some place's PDI is mediocre, versus some places actually put in the effort to find these types of issues.

All we can do is hope that we're not affected and/or get parts replaced soon.

So im guessing all of us that are opting to have spray in done by a local shop should let them know about this issue and hope they dont drill a hole in the gas tank.

My Maverick was built 10/9 and after having delivery date pushed back 4 times, it finally arrived at my dealer but is part of the fuel tank recall. They pulled the tank yesterday and did a pressure/leak test and it failed. Dealer has zero info on even a rough ETA of when they may get parts in to repair. Incredibly disappointing and continued frustration after waiting all this time. I'm going to call Ford corporate/customer service and see if someone has any ETA of when new fuel tanks are going out to dealers. Someone has to know!
Has anyone actually had a fuel tank replaced? I’m getting the impression that replacement tanks are not available.

This lucky person was able to get it done in a week.

Congratulations! I am happy for you! Some dealers are saying it could be February. A tank has been ordered for my truck but that is as much as I know.

I wish that was mine, but unfortunately I am in the same boat as you.

My salesman said I would receive eta yesterday, but that didn't happen. I have been waiting almost 90 days now for them to sell the truck I ordered to me. It sat at Jacksonville rail depot until the 21 of December. It arrived at dealership and my salesman sent me a photo saying Merry Christmas. My wife and I cut our vacation camping trip early (which would of been the first one with maverick and travel trailer) to drive 8 hours back home to take delivery on 23rd. I actually made my salesman aware of a recall for fuel tanks. Which they dropped and inspected on 23rd to find it was compromised. Delivery was cancelled and I now sit in limbo waiting status of replacement tank. I am not a happy camper, no pun intended.

Honestly, I do not understand why if there is a back order for the tanks to not just ship as many from the plant they are building them and take care of the customers waiting for the recall repair.

The post doesnt say tank was replaced. It says it was held up for a week due to fuel tank. That could of been a week for dealer to inspect and determine that it didnt need replaced.

He does indeed confirm it was replaced. Reread it and you will see. Its further down in the comments where it is asked and answered.

From the content posted on this forum, it only indicates that there was a wait due to the fuel tank and nothing about it actually being replaced. If you are saying go to another forum and read there than that is just weird.

Why is that weird? You click on the link and read the few comments made which he answers saying it is replaced, but hey if clicking on a link to reddit sub forum for ford maverick truck is too weird for you, then I don't want to freak out your fragility towards clicking. Don't click on any youtube links here either, dont want you too uncomfortable. /s
