Hi,

I received my ford maverick lariat lux package this past week. This is my first new ford vehicle. I have no prior ford temp control experience. I drove it on an 8 hour trip yesterday. The outside driving temperate was about 30 degrees F. I had to set the interior temp control on 63 degrees in order to feel remotely comfortable. I was wearing a tshirt and light jacket. As soon as I would adjust the temp up to say 67. I would be getting "Warm/ hot" air blowing. On my prior car a 2015 VW jetta when adjusting the temp control it would never be that drastic of a change. I called two local ford dealers and described the situation and did not really take it serious. Is this how Ford temp control should operate or does this sound like an issue?

It doesn't make sense to me that driving around in 30 degree temps outside I would need to have my cars temp set to below 65 degrees to feel remotely comfortable.

Thank you for your feedback. It seemed abnormal to me and they service departments did not seem to take it serious. I never drive with the temp set to 63. Especially not in winter.

The saleswoman whom showed me the features etc herself set it to 73. I found that to be very comfortable myself and its not far off from what you have. I leave mine on 73 myself. Works just fine for me.

I am typically around 68-71 degrees.

This is probably my biggest issue with my Maverick. 62-63°F is the sweet spot (17°C). 64°F and higher is like nuclear hot after the truck is warmed up. 64 feels like 80-85°F (26-29°C). Unbearably warm. 61° and below seems way too cold. Feels like 50-55°F (10-12°C). It's weird.

62°F degrees is equivalent of what 71-72° was in my Lincoln pickup, and currently in my wife's Kia minivan and my work Expedition. They were pretty consistent together, roughly. But my Maverick heating temps is just way off. The comfort band is very narrow with heat. It's bizarre, but I have made it work.

I also find I have to keep the windshield very warm in this thing, or the wipers like to freeze. Much easier than my other vehicles. That can make the cabin excruciatingly hot too. But a quick pop up of the moonroof and all the windshield hot air blows right out the top. Works great. Glad I got the moonroof!

I don't know if I will have the same issues with A/C until probably July. :)

I set up automotive climate control systems as an engineer working at a major auto mfg R&D facility in a former job. For a luxury vehicle. The systems use an algorithm equation. I would get a base equation from the supplier and each variable has a fudge factor we could change to more easily apply more or less impact to each variable. Variables were fan on, fan speed, hot/cold door position, input from solar sensor, cabin temp etc. I played around with the equation until I could get what felt right to me and others in my group when set to 72f or 25c for exports which are different temps. We did thermal dyno testing and actual field testing at Death Valley and near Canada. Our higher mgrs got to weigh in if ok in the later pilot units. In reality it’s was to feel right at that set point. It wasn’t temperature driven. If sun is beaming you need more AC. There are concessions. One solar sensor was used but one passenger may be in the sun and the other not. It’s not perfect. Also, you don’t want the blower to run fast and blow out cold air at start before the heat is there. I got a negative comment on that and had tone adjust. So I’m the end it really just comes down to how thorough the development and testing was and possibly how the guy setting the algorithm equation felt about the result comfort wise. It also boils down to how many sensors are used as fewer are cheaper. I have one on order but have concerns that development testing was likely not as good during Covid with possible rules like only on person in the test car and masks and folks working from home.

Any chance you've got the corona and have a fever?

It seems you are experiencing a similar issue, whether or not this is how the vehicles systems is designed I'm unsure. Do you think this is an issue? I personally do. Its abnormal that in the dead of winter I have my interior temp to 62°.

That is a good point you bring up, but at the moment I am not feeling ill.

In the cold weather, I keep mine at 60°F mostly. I hate temperature deltas in the winter. If I'm layered for 20°F or colder, last thing I want to do is start sweating when I drive.

The Maverick does not have any insulation or sound deadening material, so it will be cold without the heat turned up. Also, it's likely the nature of how the heater core works. A small core would have to pump out more heat to achieve the desired temperature.

It's abnormal. It's a very narrow comfort range. At least in my rig. If I go up 3 degrees from 62°F, the temperature shoots up 20-25° in the cabin. It should only go up about 3 degrees. I was pretty frustrated initially when adjusting around the 68-72°F range and not finding anything remotely comfortable the first few days of ownership. Once I discovered the Goldilocks Zone was 62-63°F, I can live with it.
