as long as its not getting INSIDE the taillight, who cares?! I don't mean that in a smart ass way but this just seems kind of normal for a piece of bodywork that's open to the elements

I was talkin to a buddy at work and he said the same thing, and I’m actually starting to think that’s a good point. He also made the point that if the light was tight with the truck it would crack the lenses if there’s any flex in the body and also if it was sealed it would enable a cavity for catching road grime which would be worse than leaking it out.

Just a thought here ...SPLASH guards anyone ? I would not have a truck without them myself personally .I get that some folks do not like them esthetically.

Just got my Maverick a couple weeks ago. I’ve noticed when the roads are wet it looks looks like road grime is possibly seeping out from between my left tail light and the steel body panels. Anyone else experienced this? I’m wondering if a seal’s not set right or if it maybe it got splashed by passing vehicle?

Hi Mavidiesel- This does suck!! I will vouch for this, it is happening to my Maverick as well. It appears only on driver side tail lamp. I was filling up the gas tank for the first time, we have all the wet snow, slush, and gunk on roads so that was the first for the Maverick since purchased as well…. I was not happy to see that!! Makes it dirtier than need be, and can cause damage or degradation to light, sheet metal, and those area(s)… it appears there is no rubber gasket or seal?? I have about 350 miles almost now on Maverick… here is my list for dealer upcoming…

1.)Replace Driver Rearview mirror (out of focus) (co-pilot style mirror).
2.)examine and ensure no issue with gas tank recall.
3.)Rear seat belt recall check.
4.)tail lamp leaking (your listed issue)
5.)soft tonneau cover order/install.
6.)wrong warranty start date (12-15 should be 12/21).
Otherwise love my Maverick and these are little first year and first 13 thousand produced.

Looks like rust waiting to happen
Agreed… this is a first for me, I have had more vehicles new and old…than I care to remember and haven’t had this before… worst case, I will over protect this area for now?? I will update if I find anything out from dealer trip. Doubt it.

the reason that road grime is shooting up into the body and behind the light is the wheelwell shroud on the rear drivers side extends 6” less down. Im thinking this was done so the cold air behind the wheel hits the muffler directly but this also allows all that road debris to fly up. So I need a flap that will fill that gap. I don’t think the Ford ones will.

Certainly not good if road salt gets up in there. Obviously overlooked by Ford engineering. I've never seen this on other vehicles I've owned. Wouldn't expect this issue and be disappointed on a new vehicle. I don't think a recall is justified but maybe a service bulletin to correct with a shroud. We all need to report these issues and keep the heat on Ford to fix them. This is what happens on 1st year of production. Maybe should have waited 🤔.

What’s a good way to let em know? Should I let my dealer know?

Yes, maybe with the info from here in the back of your mind (shroud not going down long enough in wheel well) in case they don’t know or act puzzled… and point out the issue… they may already be aware and will remedy or at least put something into the works for it? Either way, I believe this will need to be dealt with sooner than later!

Absolutely let your dealer known that it's not acceptable. You can call the Ford Maverick Team and also write a letter to Ford. I'm sure they would like to know about this and correct it early.

Is anyone with the stock Ford mudflaps having the same issue? I’ve got a set of those coming with my FordPass points. I know they don’t fully cover that 6” gap but they do cover the initial angle the tires will
Spray at. But I’m thinking maybe I’ll just go and buy the Rokblock ones and install those instead.

If you crawl under the truck and observe the drivers side vs the passenger side you can see they addressed this issue on the passenger side with an aerodynamic cover and did not put one on the drivers side. I mentioned this earlier, the cover keeps grime out of the passenger side cubby area. It almost looks like they intended to use one in the other side but the exhaust would get in the way. Maybe they had one that got melted in early testing? Anyway once some snow melts I might try cutting some material to cover the hole and see if it works to solve this issue.

Heres some updates for you on my adventure. It was like minus 20celcius when I did this. Top shiny one has a washer on both sides and has the clip shown on it. Didn't want to remove plastic shroud when it was so cold on the passenger side. Just used the self threading screw for the top. Just wanted to share as it shows the coverage and how much shit I was getting out the back of my light. Still a small gap but should just hit the flat metal that runs toward the light. Used factory screws on bottom tightened them in nicely. But ya the Ford accessories ones just didn't seem to have great inner coverage. Got these here in Canada at Canadian tire for 40$.

Please tell me that’s a ton of mud, dirty, clay, gravel and road grime and not any signs of rust!? Did this help or not with your tail lamp getting gunked up?
