Ford Maverick Disconnected air hose thingy/connector IMG_6864

The lame subject line genuinely reflects my ignorance. Was filling my wiper fluid today and noticed this disconnected air hose. It was easy to reconnect, but I was seeking input on if it was a big deal and how it might have come undone.

picts show both states, before and after.

That appears to be the breather side of the crankcase ventilation system. Unhooked, this would have been a fairly large vacuum leak. I'm surprised it hasn't thrown a code, meaning, I'm surprised it didn't show a MIL (check engine light) on the dash. The blue tab is a locking mechanism so, assuming it was locked on from the factory, somehow that release has been pushed to cause it to come loose.

The only "big deal" would have been if this sucked in any particulate matter through the throttle body, but that's not likely other than maybe some dust.

What TBone said. Maybe was disconnected when changing the air filter and not reconnected?

“Vacuum Leaks: If this hose cracks, degrades, or slips off, it introduces unmetered air into your engine. This will cause a lean condition, rough idling, or trigger a check engine light (like an OBD-II P0171”

Thx for replies.

I had an oil change (local Ford dealer) in February and have gone 6,000 miles since. Nothing noticeable except maybe gas mileage has been a little worse than before.

I’ll pay attention to see if I notice anything going forward.

Bill,
You bought the truck around April 2025.
Last February had an oil change at Ford. Do you think Ford may have checked your air filter when they did your oil change and then ended up disconnecting it or did they replace your air filter too?

It's not a vacuum "leak" because it's in front of the throttle body and there is no MAF. As far as the A/F management is concerned it's no different than air coming through the airbox.

My apologies, I wasn't aware of the lack of MAF on the Hybrid. Now it makes sense why there was no MIL. Thanks for the info. Good call on "vacuum leak" as well--what I meant was the presence of vacuum at that port pulling air in directly.

So, @HighBread, there is no real issue other than some dust may have come in through the opening in the intake tube. This disconnection likely was due to someone checking the air filter's condition and the connection was left loose as @Glen Baker LLC mentioned.

That is why I do as much of the work myself as possible to avoid dealer an shops! You really do have to babysit them. Always double-check their work, because you can't just trust that they did it right. 🛻👀

Amen. I used to document in a spreadsheet all of the things my service department would do wrong. It was a large list, but it doesn't grow much anymore since I'll only allow them to do recall and warranty work.

Years back, I've found the mechanic's wrenches left on top of my engine -- sure sign that he/she never double checked anything when they were "done."
