I actually did that and I'll be damned if it didn't come back in the 20 minutes we drove around.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a “cold weather” issue for the people that have never experienced it. I believe it’s an issue where the truck itself is cold and they just haven’t stopped to feel it before the engine gets up to heat. I’ve felt this when it was hot outside and when it’s cold. Get what I’m saying? An example is my long driveway. I stop at the end to close the gate behind me. when I’m waiting for the gate to shut if I’m sitting there…foot on the brake , it will lurch. if someone left their house and didn’t stop to shut a gate or anything they wouldn’t feel it lurch because the truck would be “warm or warmer” by the time they stopped at the first light or stop sign or somewhere away from their house. At least that is my personal experience. For the people who voted that they never experienced this do you live in a place where it doesn't get below 40?
That's interesting that you get a lurch without the noise. The noise is definitely different than the creeping brake pad noise. It's a grinding/groaning coming from engine area that occurs in tandem with lurches. Mine does not lurch unless it's also making the noise. It almost feels like a bad clutch that's intermittently catching. My lurches without any noise also. You just feel the movement… no noise.
Agreed, it's just more noticeable in cold weather because it takes the truck much longer to heat up. If I'm driving in the city in sub-zero temps, the truck will take at least 15 minutes to heat up completely, and will lurch/grind/surge until warm.I don’t think it’s necessarily a “cold weather” issue for the people that have never experienced it. Sounds like it has something to do with the transmission. I'd be okay living with it if I knew it wouldn't hurt the vehicle sometime down the line, but I feel that it can't be good for the internal components of transmission... we'll see I supposeMine lurches and surges on cold start. I don't think it’s too temp dependent for me, does it when the weather is cold and I remember it doing it when it was warmer during the fall. It will do the lurching in idle for about 5-10 minutes from start to driving. Can’t say I’m a fan of it but it seems to be kinda normal so I live with it for now. Hopefully it’s not an issue down the line.![]()
Yeah I dropped it off for the same thing and they said it all looks fine. I haven't yet drained/refilled the transmission but I'll probably do that soon just to get eyes on it and for piece of mind.Sounds like it has something to do with the transmission. You have a loaner, right?I've now had my 24 hybrid back at the dealership a second time for the surging at cold start. First they reset the trans module. They said drive it for awhile. Nothing changed, in fact it did it at first stop right off the lot.
This time, they kept it for 2 days and did a cold soak start. It did it for them. It will do it everytime if it sits for at least 4hrs and is completely cold.
They sent me home with no answers. The service writer said they would get back to me that techs are discussing the issue with another dealership and Ford reps. Could be a lose flywheel. I've been calling back once a week for 3 weeks now. This time SR said they turned it over to Ford warranty dept. Could be the transmission or electric motors. I told them I want a firm date now on doing something besides blowing me off. I don't think they know, what it is. I guess my next step will be contacting corporate and finding a legal recourse. Anyone have a suggestion.
No loaner. I was sent on my way in my Maverick with no direction. Wasn't told not to drive it. It has some pretty good firm multiple surges sometimes with a sort of clunk sound and disengagement. Not every time. You have a loaner, right?
My dealership had no loaners so paid for me to get a compact car from Avis.
(I think it was Avis) No truck for 25 days. But I had a compact car to get to work in for 25 days. Parts were made of unobtanium.
And this is why American automakers are on the brink of bankruptcy.
