Except for the dealer fill up, my '26 hybrid has run nothing but non-ethanol gas for the first 2000 miles. Mileage has been 44.5 MPG..

I hadn't seen this video before.
This is a 10-minute video on the difference octane makes when pulling a load with an ecoboost engine particularly in F-150.
I'm thinking this could be scaled down to 2.0 ecoboost with the same results.
I found this interesting in the 2022 owners manual.

** yes there is a graphic of a Ford Lightning.
I've gone around with some Maverick owners on this forum, on this subject a few times. People believe what they want to believe. For the record, I'm a top tier premium user. A month back, just BEFORE my 5K mile oil change at 40K miles I checked the dipstick. The level was good and the oil actually still looked new.

If you don’t have a turbo, you shouldn’t need premium
Actually, depends on manufactures build parameters. Since turbos raise compression, a turbo engine will likely run best on higher octane but a lot of non boosted engines should also have high test.

I was surprised my first gen. Chevy Volt required premium gasoline for it's Atkinson cycle engine.
Chevy changed engines for the 2nd generation and it did not require premium. Neither one was turbocharged.🤷‍♂️

I wonder about this top tier stuff as I rarely see the sticker on the pump even for those brands that are advertised as such. Plus, the additive is added at the terminal...or is it? Other than an scientific analysis, how else can we tell....
Gas Station Franchisees risk losing their station license if caught using “counterfeit” gas. Scientific analysis is performed by “corporate” through occasional audits.

It is possible, however, to cheat and betray our sacred trust. What else, my Big Mac patty is counterfeit?

Also a lot of states run analysis through their Departments of Agriculture.

NYS does not. It relies on the top tier program to monitor. And many stations that are franchised with the brands that are designated TT don't display TT stickers.

There has been a lot of discussion and validation that ‘Top Tier’ gas does in fact keep injectors clean vs. non Top Tier gas.

For our engines, it does make a difference and I do in fact try to only buy Top Tier gas when i can. Usually a gas station has some pride in their Top Tier gas and will market it as such at the pump.

Bob
There are no laws for Top Tier stickers and there are no Top Tier police.

A Valero station closed. And a Mom & Pop bought it. All the TT stickers and signs stayed up. But price per gallon went down 59 cents overnight.

🤷🏻‍♂️

True but meaningless.

I use nothing but 10% ethanol.
(or so the pumps say)

I routinely get 54 MPG and up to 800 miles on a tankful of it. True but also meaningless to someone else.

That is impressive. I'm deliberately not tracking my fuel consumtion too closely, only relying on the vehicle to report for now. I figure it's not broken in yet (I'm at just 2,165 odometer miles). Maybe once I hit 5k miles I'll track it on paper (or with an app).

My question is more about whether they actually add the additive to the tanker. While the local authorities test the pumps for accuracy, they don't for additives.
We go through life expecting that we are buying what we are being sold.
Gasoline is not a back room sort of industry. If you are buying gas from a reputable station that says Top Tier then I would ASSume it most likely is!

Just like I hope the oil change place is really putting synthetic oil in my truck, or they are actually using real air when they fill the tires.
Or when I buy a Subway crab meat sub that it’s really crab meat.

One of those is a joke BTW.

Got my 24 eb in February had 5567.6 when I drove it off the lot. Fuel economy been going up since. Seems to have stabilized am almost 13k.
My wife's Kona N-Line did same. 34 miles off the lot milage improved to around 10k

I hope the Subway one isn't a joke. I'll be gravely disappointed!
