2025 Lariat Hybrid. Often when another vehicle is merging into the lane in front of me, and even once when I was the one merging, my Maverick applied some form of braking automatically. I even had it occur when someone turned from a side street onto the road in the same direction as me and very briefly crossed into my lane.

The vehicles are almost always well beyond the following distance I have set in the dynamic cruise control. I have not seen any warning on the dash, and it seems unlikely I miss it every time. I'm not sure it is cruise control related, but the situations it occurs I am typically using cruise. There really is no reason for the braking. I'm not even sure the vehicles are going slower than me when merging.

Any ideas what is going on? I've learned to live with most of the nannies, but this one I don't think I will not be annoyed by. Honestly it doesn't even seem safe if there are people behind me.

I know what you’re talking about, unfortunately that’s my only gripe about the adaptive cruise. If you set it going down the highway and somebody decides they wanna whip in front of you real quick the truck is gonna basically slam on brakes in the middle of the highway. Have to really pay attention to the other lane when you have the cruise set.

Pre collision assist is what you probably experienced.
I have mine set at High the most sensitive setting. I want plenty of notice.
It has never activated the brakes.

According to the 2025 👇🏻 manual you can turn it off. Temporarily.
At the bottom of the page it also notes that it will reactivate when you restart your truck. In other words it's not something that you can permanently disable.

The brake lights do illuminate
When the truck activates collision avoidance and applies the brakes.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I looked at pre-collision settings and mine is in the middle setting. What gets me is the other vehicle is considerably ahead, not a risk, and maybe not even going slower. I don't see any notification on the dash.

My 2022 Camry had pre-collision assist, and it never did this. It only activated 3-4 times in 60k miles and they were sketchy situations where I understand the application.

My Maverick and my Santa Fe both have the ACC and they both behave the way you describe. I use the ACC a lot and am pretty good at anticipating what it is going to do. Sometimes a quick pause and resume is the only thing required to prevent it. Sometimes a bit of accelerator to override the ACC. I have noticed that a car merging in front of me going at the same speed can cause a big reaction but a car merging at the same distance but going slightly faster cause only a mild, if any, response from the ACC. My big problem is the controls are on opposite sides of the steering wheel between my two vehicles. Sometimes I'm flailing away at the wrong switch.

WEll, I guess I'm not the only one. If Ford ever sends me a survey on this vehicle I'll mention it. The industry norm is better than this from what I've experienced.

2025 Lariat Hybrid... My ACC will not brake if the car merging ahead of me is accelerating away even if they cut me off. It will brake if they aren't accelerating away from me and I'm gaining on them.

My truck is admittedly a 2023, but that doesn't sound like pre-collision to me. I adjusted the sensitivity on mine to the least-intrusive setting, but occasionally still get warnings. No one in the truck cab (or within a few car lengths lol) would be able to overlook that. It's a lot of flashing and beeping.

I have never had it apply the brakes. The threshold for that is so high that very few have experienced it.

Do you have a newer Santa Fe? We are getting a new vehicle for my wife in July and that is our favorite so far.

FORD !

Dammit that’s enough !

Give us a way to disable all this nanny crap the lawyers made you stick us with !

I’ve nearly been rear ended twice when that bullshit applies my brakes for no reason.

I’ve got good driving skills, I don’t need it !

It is a 2023 hybrid and gets 35 MPG (calculated). It is my wife's car and she loves it. When we started looking she thought she wanted a Subaru Outback. We test drove one and then rented one for a couple of weeks. We would drive it to test drive other SUVs and she decided the Santa Fe was best. The thing she likes most about it is the 360 degree camera and encouraged me to get the Lariat trim Maverick because it had the 360. We have had zero problems or recalls with the Santa Fe..

That's why I'm keeping my 2001 Tacoma with manual transmission. Hands and feet are directly connected to things that make it go.

Hybrids/EB Lariats are brake by wire too! The pedal has a hydraulic backup but doesn't do anything under normal conditions.

Less is more. That's one reason I like my motorcycle, no automatic anything. I'm surprised the government nannies still let them on the road.
I don't have a lot of the driver aids on my '24 XLT but I still am irritated by some of what I do have. The almost 50mpg average still makes up for a lot of it though.
