We recently had high gas prices before for YEARS (not a couple months) at a time because of regulatory policy. In 2022 when the minor incursion of Russia into Ukraine occurred, a gallon of regular gas spiked to about $5.00/gallon in the mid-Atlantic region. In 2012, the average annual price of gas was about $3.64/gallon, due to energy policy. Adjusted for inflation, that would be about $5.25/gallon - reportedly not a big deal.
Because those examples were different! At least that is what some people here want to tell us.

wrong again, they are not here because of punitive tarrifs.

They are sold in Europe NOW, which has High safety standards,
That's another reason.

Why would anyone use superchargers unless on a longer or poorly planned trip? Sleep on it… slow charge… then sell it 🤗

It's every freaking time man. It's pretty ridiculous that it always devolves like that. Like I could see the bashing and politics if we were discussing unpopular government policy or something. But the fact that it'll just be stories like "Look at this cool EV" and it still devolves into a clusterfuck is frustrating.

I don't care about the politics around some EV stuff. This is about a badass product, and EV or not, this truck is sounding pretty badass.
Yeah I honestly have never heard a good reason why people should care if other people get an Ev yet without fail there is always a fight lol. But at least ford seems to be listening and at least trying to make more reasonable trucks and more trucks for different people. Of course it won't be the right fit for everyone but for everyone wanting an ev truck that doesn't cost 80k I am excited for them to see how this plays out.

Yeah, the Kroger thing is definitely the craziest playground, chest thumping, silliness I’ve read on here for a while. I mean, really? You two are fighting about who has a better grocery store.
It’s a good time to put down the keyboard.

Back on subject, I agree that EV’s are our future but it’s taking Americans longer to get over their petroleum habits. Our current Cheeto caused gas crisis is a very good example of why we should be very wary of one dominant source of power.

Bob- I like all grocery stores- Zimmerman
Yeah yeah, but we got Wegmans Here!

When Ford comes out with a PHEV Maverick, I will immediately put in my order.
I love EV, but don’t love the fact that I need to be on a virtual tether to the charging stations and long charge cycles. Even if a full charge only takes 20mins, I’m not a player…. Bring on the Super Capacitor / solid state batteries that charge in moments vs minutes…
I'd gladly take an EV maverick if they could manage 400 miles on a charge. The Silverado EV stands as the only EV truck that covers my edge use cases. But I cant afford a $90k vehicle, not in a million years.

the charging time isn't a huge issue for me, after 4 hours on the highway I am long ready for a bathroom break and a walk, and in that 15-20 minute time a modern supercharger and 800v battery will be fully topped off.

What IS an issue to me is that the US is still very large and there are huge swaths of the country that dont have reliable fast charger access, or have 1 or 2 stations in a 50 mile radius on a heavily traveled highway. We are decades away from having gasoline tier EV services available. And one of the few times I tow is in these areas, so that becomes an issue.

Well the simplest reason is over half of Americans have no access to home charging. Once you get rid of the apartment dwellers and all the houses and condos that dont have garages, you're down to about 50% of the country's households.

For them public fast chargers are the only sensible solution, and likely the only available.

And you, me, and many others do not own EVs. Rapid charging (as noted in some Tesla owners manuals) is not a good thing if used too much. Garages are not a prerequisite for chargers, but people that move often would probably learn that they chose the wrong vehicle.

Fast Charging is only desirable when you are traveling far away from home. Vacations. Muti-day trips, etc.

In every day use fast charging is UNDESIRABLE. Puts stress on batteries.
And it's not needed 99% of the time.

Recharging while you work and sleep is the norm. Most people's vehicles are parked 22 or 23 hours of every day. More than enough time to recharge. Excess of time actually.

EV owners get it.
Gasoholics don't get it.

I misunderstood the context and innuendo of the other guy’s post and his follow-up was rather dickish…. So thank you.
I’m an engineer (now retired) - so I do understand that fast-charging any battery, Lithium or otherwise is not healthy for them. Deep discharges are also harmful. Which is why I posted what I did - re: Super Capacitors and Solid State batteries which charge in moments rather than minutes. Also, these types of batteries can generally be deeply discharged without penalty..
As for my wife and I - Until we decided that we wanted the Maverick, we were exploring PHEV options in the SUV sizes. During my research - I found that some manufacturers are not using Lithium for their traction batteries and that bothered me. For various reasons I’m not crazy about NiMH batteries. Seems like a step backwards.
PS - one of my past projects was building an EV motorcycle. Lots of fun, but not without its drawbacks (mostly range)..

current people in charge don't want EV's- their rich friends make money off oil and gas. For this to work, we have to subsidize like China does. To compete, everyone has to play by the same rules- level playing field

Oh absolutely. There's just something about a cool product that you and I can actually afford if we want one that makes discussing it a lot more fun. I understand some of the tech like the mach-e style door handles or Tesla 3 style screens might be off-putting for some. But I believe having all this fresh tech is something that will help differentiate this product from the maverick.

Its not a big secret that Ford is working on a small unibody EV, there are threads on here already with official coverage from Ford…
You can find patent drawings of a small EV crossover with dual motors on the US Patent website if you search for "Ford"

I am definitely interested in this EV truck. I drive for Uber full time and use a Chevy Blazer EV, which is a great vehicle. My Maverick sits in the driveway unused until the weekends or if I go out of town. It would be great to combine them into one vehicle, and an EV truck with a frunk could possibly do that.

By the time this new truck comes out I'll be pretty much done paying for both of my current vehicles, and could possibly trade 2 for 1 and end up with no payment.

Is a low riding EV truck enough truck for me? Yes. My Maverick has hauled some mulch, gone to the dump, carried some furniture. I never tow, and I never go on long trips.
