Some more tibids. Overall, this truck sounds kinda like if Tesla had decided to make a super innovative truck, but instead of making it look like a dumpster, made it look more conventional, and a lot more affordable. In other words, this Ford EV truck sounds like the type of truck Tesla should have made.

I know a lot of this is gonna be too radical for traditionalists, but I believe this is gonna be a huge hit for the affordable EV crowd who really appreciates this sort of tech.

Any Chinese Car sold in the US Market would by definition, have to meet US Safety Standards. Your argument using safety is a non-starter here.

I was replying to a quote about how China doesnt have unions and labor laws (some of the reasons their vehicles are cheaper). and I also added in they had less stringent safety rules/standards/etc to build vehicles. (could have changed recently, havent checked). but then also commented about how you generally dont see chinese branded vehicles being sold in countries that have safety standards, because then they would need to design/build the cars to higher standards thus raising costs. So yes I feel the argument using Safety is relevant. Take away the US Safety Standards and watch how fast brands would start cutting safety corners to save a couple bucks...

Europe has much higher safety and emissions standards than the USA does and yet the Chinese are moving in fast in Europe. Safety is not an argument as each local/domestic market sets the standards and the Chinese would have to meet it to compete in said markets.

As far as working conditions go, every country set's their own standards as appropriate for their own conditions. They will never be equalized unless the country joins a formal trading block that requires it (Like the EU).

Also China DOES have Labor Laws and Unions. They just have different standards than we do.

As confirmed in a Wall Street journal article this morning 5-5-26, Ford will begin production of their 30k EV truck in Louisville later this year and will start selling the vehicle next year. A snip from the WSJ article.

ALLEN PARK, Mich.—A crew of engineers slipped past the empty security gate at a truck plant outside Detroit just after 3 a.m. The factory lines were still at that hour—but that was the point.

The crew was there to test a section of a new pickup that few at the company knew even existed. Ford’s secret project had an ambitious goal: to figure out how to make electric vehicles in the U.S. that could compete with the Chinese models clobbering competitors globally.

The secret is now out as Ford races toward building its first model, a new truck it says will be nearly as fast as a Mustang, travel around 300 miles on a single charge and feature in-car technology to compete with Tesla and China. It’s aiming for a 2027 launch and a price tag of around $30,000, the cost of a Toyota Camry.

Getting there means tearing up a century of manufacturing practices in a notoriously hidebound industry. At stake for Ford is securing a future beyond the gas-guzzling pickups and SUVs that have long defined its bottom line.
The project had been kept quiet from its 2022 start, led by veterans from Tesla and Apple who worked on designs out of a California office. Ford eventually brought in some of its own employees to help execute the vision. The process was filled with misunderstandings and distrust as the techie outsiders worked to win over the risk-averse industry veterans.
To build these new EVs, the company must use fewer people and simpler parts, and dismantle decades of engineering inertia. Chief Executive Jim Farley is calling it Ford’s new “Model T moment.” Rival automakers say overcoming China on EVs can’t be done, given their advantages: extensive government backing, low-cost labor and a massive head start.

Assuming this article is TRUE...SLAT must be scratching their heads. I do find it amazing that SLATE has invested almost 2 years trying to start their EV assembly line.

The 2.0l ecoboost engine is not available south the border.
I got my 2024 brand new back in the day.
If I want to upgrade to a new 2026 I won't be able to get the 2.0l
The 2.0l seems to be worry free vs the 2.5l Hybrid

Bob all American automakers are subsidized one way or another. To get a plant in your city it costs a lot to win over other possible locations. Gump took away your EV subsidy so no way will the US compete with China for many years to come. Since I am Canadian I bought my Maverick because it was mainly built in Mexico.

Good point. Georgia paid Rivian $6 BILLION to build a plant in Georgia and erased their tax liability for years in to the future.... Tax payers are paying part of every new truck and SUV Rivian builds.

Incentive and subsidies are everywhere. .
It's just that EV subsidies were a direct give back from the government to entice buyers who normally would not be interested battery operated vehicles.
And when that enticement dried up. Sales dipped.
*As of April 22, 2026 a report shows that electric vehicle sales dropped by 14% in the first quarter. Experts point to federal policy changes, such as the end of a $7,500 tax credit for buyers and the rollback of fuel economy rules.
And
Tesla has faced significant sales pressure, including a 24.3% crash in California registrations in Q1 2026 and a 15.6% drop in Q4 2025 global deliveries.

Never owned a BEV, but I definitely will. The thing I always remember is the incredible percentage of BEV owners who answer polls that they'll never buy an ICE vehicle again. It's some crazy number north of 90%.

Not any kind of BEV crusader here (ecoboost in my drive). But I can see the future coming in the form of BEVs, and it doesn't look half bad. It's taking a little while, but they seem to be addressing the obstacles to ownerwhip one by one. It's not too far in the future that I figure it becomes a no brainer for many of us (certainly not all of us, and that is cool).

My guess Range 200 on paper. ad 10K get 300 long range version.

Chinese manufacturers don't have to deal with unions... or labor laws.

I've reached the point in my life where I'm willing to pay a little more for an American-made product.

I too support American made products, but being union made does not ensure quality or value.
