I need more time and a bigger screen but intend to watch every minute of these videos (there's a small series) later tonight.

thank you for posting

first take away: new HYBRID Transmission is $3500 if you DIY and $9000 if the dealer does it. So many hours of labor I suspect.

He says his Maverick hybrid had 109k miles when the trans failed. And just outside of his extended warranty. I wonder if Ford would help pay for some of it?

I give this guy a lot of credit. That's a bigger job than I would want to tackle.

Did he change the fluid at 50K. I bet NOT. Other video's on youtube saying change the fluid or it fails on the older hf-35 . Will see if he takes tranny apart to see WHY it failed. HF-35 one bearing fails allowing it to destroy one the of the motors inside.

Thanks for posting it will be interesting to see how hard it is to remove. My understanding the engine and trans come out as a unit.

At 8:10 in the video he starts talking about the trans fluid. No, he did not change it.

I've read that the 2026 Maverick hybrids use the HF55 trans. An improvement over the HF35.

If you look at his other short video that is from a month ago whereas his one from (above is only 3 days old) you can see what appears to have failed. Hopefully he'll get in to more detail in episode 2 soon.

This is the vid from a month ago:

Interesting. So it doesn't appear not changing fluid had anything to do with it. .Seems like a defect in what ever keeps that one gear from spinning. I wonder how he KNOWS that gear is not supposed to spin?

If that is the whole reason trans failed I wonder if others will fail in the same spot. In watching youtube vids on the older HF-35 never seen that before. This is concerning as no maintenance will keep that from occurring .

He has another video. In this one he removes the trans and begins to disassemble it.
Looks like he may have found the problem.

And his used the HF45 - an improvement over the HF35 - which never appeared in the Maverick.

The interesting thing is that it doesn't seem like he has much experience with this kind of work. He points out obvious things, like how the CV axles are retained, which way to go to remove the trans, etc. that he would have known about if he had that experience. Considering he's not familiar with an EGR cooler, etc, he's dealing with a lot of the unknown (to him). So he does deserve some credit for tackling it.

Thank goodness I have enough cash where if that happened to me and it was after my extended warranty expired I would sell it to some one who can fix it themselves for dirt cheap and buy another vehicle. No way I'm messing with that hassle.

His video gives me an idea of how many of the components connect together.
So in that sense I find it educational.

I agree that it is educational, and that he shows good coverage of the process. He may not be the most efficient at it, but he covers his thought process well.
