Wow, such real world experiences here, I haven't needed to pay for a lawyer, I tend to win and the other side pays. I lost only when I didn't have a lawyer thinking it would go my way. Waiting for my payment is the worst. The Lawyer gets paid first. Had one where the Lawyer ask me to be merciful on the other party ( they went broke, lost there state service license and had to move and open elsewhere due to my non legal actions ) Two other companies where forced out of business lost their state charter after I found the root cause to the billing issue and neither business followed sound advice on business practices.

It kinda sounds like the post was an overreaction to the dealership stating the obvious before they dug in further out of the fear of having to pay so much, and all is normal now. But if it happens again they will likely blame it on the modifications. I don't think there was ever any real issue here. Dealerships still get paid for warranty work and most are hard pressed to deny stuff now days. Especially considering they install the kits (some kits) themselves most times too.
Anyways... When modifying stance, expect the worst and hope for the best lol.

Enjoy your truck!
No overreaction here, they couldn't figure out the issue after the initial test and completing open recalls, so that lead to the teardown. I was fine with the teardown feeling confident it would be something stupid and warrantable. When they told me it was the transmission I was very surprised. There was no inclination of a mechanical failure of that level. The vehicle wouldn't shift out of park so my 1st thought was it was a sensor fault/failure.

The dealership technician's findings as they related to the Trans failure and modifications is where the disagreement came, and because they made that assessment I was responsible for that teardown and any repairs. Although I don't know what the field engineer's findings were I can imagine they couldn't prove one way that my modifications definitively had play or overloading causing that failure. Their comments on being paid for warranty work was that if the vehicle has mods Ford apparently can reject the parts they send back if they don't have a valid warrantable reason as to why the parts failed.

I did learn a few things to do differently in the future but like i've read its all about where you go and the relationship you have with the dealership.

Update:

The dealer still has the truck. They replaced the Transmission as goodwill and said I would still have to pay for the tear down that was done during diag. Well, last week they finally called and said the Transmission was "in" but now they were having an issue with communication to the PCM. They would need to replace the PCM. I felt like the issue all along was electric or computer related not mechanical but now this seems to solidify that thought. I'm still waiting to get my truck back and get all the documentation of what was going on. I haven't had my truck for almost 5+ months now smh.

According to forums like this one, all you had to do was wave around a printed copy of Magnuson-Moss act and poof all good.

Sorry, not trying to rub salt in the wound, just love all the morons that throw that out like some magic pill. All the power is in the dealer/manufacture's hands and without lawyers, that act is useless.

Its good info but you are right, all the power is in the dealership. That much I gathered from a Jeep forum during my extensive googling. The person in that situation (very similar - Mods and an apparent Transmission issue) recommended trying all sources at the dealership before doing anything else. Now I'm still fighting them on my own but they are trying to do the right thing it appears even if they aren't doing the right thing quickly.

I haven't had my truck for almost 5 months now. And with the last update they gave me about replacing my PCM I'm feeling like I shouldn't be paying for any teardown that led to the transmission as it doesn't seem like it was a Transmission problem to begin with.
