i've had 2 cars (subaru and malibu) with mysterious 'drone' noise coming from the back. it was a bit hard to locate the specific source of the sound. root cause ended up being the rear wheel bearings were bad. kinda odd for e new car, but not out of the question. at low speeds, the noise is not really perceptable. but at highway speeds it was pretty loud.

I put the truck on ramps and climbed under it with the engine idling this morning since I am off today. The truck was rust proofed at the dealership so I double checked to make sure everthing was fastened. Only weird thing was the long straight section of the exhaust pipe has a hanger mount welded between the muffler and the cat. There was no place on the truck body to attach it to. Thought that was weird but maybe this pipe is also used elsewhere such as a Bronco Sport .

I like F100Lobo's idea and I have sound deadener material myself. How difficult is doing the doors? Do the doors benefit much from it or is the easier to get to rear cab get the most benefit?

I replaced a 2018 Fusion Titanium with my 2025 Lobo. I had many people comment on how quiet the Fusion was at highway speeds.
The Lobo is noticeably louder.
I went around the Maverick knocking on the body panels. The fenders, rear doors and tailgate almost ring when knocked. Knocking in the under seat storage bin was like hitting a drum.
I had a roll of roofing membrane so I tried a piece inside the tailgate.
Only the upper half of the tailgate can be deadened because of a strengthening structure.
It made a difference when closing the tailgate and I can hear a difference when I knock on the upper or lower half of the tailgate.
From there I decided to use up the membrane on the front and rear fenders. I removed the plastic liners, cleaned the surfaces with alcohol and applied the membrane.
There was a noticeable change when knocked and the cabin was quieter.
I then bought aluminum butyl deadener from Amazon. I applied it under the rear seat and the back of the cab.
At this point I checked the db on an 18km ride. It averaged 72db
I then applied deadener to the front and rear doors, roof and floor.
I also applied 4mm sound deadening foam over the aluminum butyl deadener under the back seat around the storage bin sections, the door panels and roof.
In the end I am averaging 68db on the highway and at idle its at 58db.
The doors panels come off easily with panel levers (Amazon), 7mm and 8mm sockets. Google the how to.
A side benefit of all the deadener is the stereo sounds better. 👌
Btw I did the work when my Maverick had less than 400km (250 miles). My neighbors were asking lots of questions. Lol
I brought the truck back to the dealership to show them the difference. The salesman gave me a Ford hat and tee shirt. Bonus!

I have a 2026 Lariat Eco with just over 600 miles now. I can get a lot of road noise I didn't hear in my Challenger or work vehicle, but mine is definitely attributed to specific stretches of road. On my drive home from the dealer, I thought I heard something bad going on in the drivetrain at one point, but as soon as I hit the next section of road that had been worked on more recently, it stopped. Several passes now, and there is something about that stretch that is noticeably noisier. It seems like this truck (and maybe tire combo'd with it) may amplify certain noises more than other vehicles I'm used to. On sections of my drive that were repaved in the last 12 months, it's super quiet.

Here is a picture taken underneath the Maverick from the driver side looking towards the rear of the truck. The unused hanger mount is circled in yellow. There is nothing above it on the chassis to attach it to. This would not be my sound problem, but there is a large gap between the hanger behind the muffler and all the way to the cat. You would think something has to give eventually with age.

There should not be a hanger there

The OEM exhaust on the AWD is pictured here:

My 2025 Lobo looks like the bottom photo. I have the blue rubber hanger at the muffler. do not have the hanger in the Op's photo.

Yes, and besides a hanger in the wrong place - the OP’s pipe is very corroded for a new Maverick. Looks almost like someone snagged a reject exhaust system out back of the Hermosillo factory:(

Truck was built January 2026 and has 348 miles on it. There are newer Mavericks on the dealer's lot. Guess I am going to have to take some cardboard with me and take a look underneath one or two of those.

Couple points…

The exhaust is one long piece - from the catalytic converter to the tailpipe exit. It is not under anything - it can drop out as one long piece…

The exhaust system is not covered by any warranty. Not even the 3/36. It is considered a consumable like an oil filter.

However - you clearly have a manufacturing defect that should be replaced at no charge. Although who knows how long it will take to ship the dealer that oversized item….

I just looked at my 2026 Lariat, i can confirm the unused hanger seems to be normal. That seems like a lot of rust, unless it's seen time on salted roads I suppose. The date at the bottom of my window sticker says 12 10 25, I didn't think to look at that on the truck itself when I was looking at the exhaust. This is with 600+ miles, with several trips up and down the very muddy road I live on.

Exhaust and 3 Yr./36 Month Warranty??? Oh I know it well. The muffler on my 2004 Ranger rusted out in less than 3 years, and I had to pay for a new exhaust system. Service department thought they could get a refund from Ford under the emissions coverage, but it was denied along with Ford area service rep denying coverage. The replacement was still in good shape 11 years, 50,000 miles or so later when I traded it in. I will have to look at the new Mavericks on the lot this weekend if it stays dry.

Weird! I guess that is one of the few changes between the 25 & 26 model years…
