I just saw over on CNBC that Kia announced a new line of pickups for the U.S. market. The lineup includes a hybrid model.

They already have a pickup called the Tasman available in other markets. It's a new pickup platform optimized for rough terrain.

Kia Tasman, available only:
South Korea: The home market was the first to receive the Tasman in mid-2025.
Australia: A major focus for the model; it officially launched there in July 2025.
South Africa: Sales recently commenced in early 2026, offered with the 2.2L turbodiesel engine.
Middle East: Available in several countries across the region (Saudi Arabia was one of the first reveal locations).
New Zealand: Launched in late 2025

None in America

That poor Tasman looks like a Tacoma that got its ass beaten and left for dead.

I'm sure there will be some takers when the US model comes out here, but even in the more caricature-friendly truck market, Kia's design language is... pretty "niche."

And people on here complained about the new grill of the 2025 Ford Maverick.:sadface::LOL:

You're being kind for the most part, and spot-on I think with the description in your first sentence.

I feel the same about Hyundai--the new Santa Fe especially and that horrid chevron-thing on the side of the Elantra...the Koreans clearly have a new styling "language" that I just can't quite interpret.

I will say I think the Ioniq 5 is pretty freakin’ radical. And that ought to give you a pretty good indication of my age range lol.

I concur, and I believe we're both about the same age. "X" marks the spot.

Right now it’s a body-on-frame target at Hilux or Ranger sized trucks. Santa Cruz failed against Maverick. Will they really follow through with another North American attempt. Maybe, but the Tasman would need some work to become a challenge here. It’s the Pontiac Aztec of pickup trucks!

Still not seeing any confirmed trucks for the compact segment. All the so called body on frame mid sizes keep getting bigger and bigger. We'll see.

I like the looks of the Tasman, look like the future utilitarian design Musk was going for with the cybertruck, but unlike that ugly beast this doesnt look like its from a PS1 game.

Problem is that Kia/Hyundai have never gotten the whole third party support thing figured out. The mavericks sheer enormity of accessories played a major part in its success. Sure all the different mats and stickers and bits of plastic may seem silly but people have always loved customizing their rides.

I'm actually rather sad the Cruz failed. On paper, that 2.5T/8 speed DCT combo should have made the Cruz a regular Golf R killer, yet what we got was too glitchy and odd. Not to mention the transmission failures and the total lack of things like bed caps.

Talk about a misfire. It's incredible how Hyundai did everything wrong compared to Ford.

I would love to see a new Kia hybrid truck in 2030 or sooner! I loved many aspects of the two Kia's that I have owned.
I'm assuming that the catastrophe shown here as the Tasman will be Americanized and loose the wiz-bang plastic fender bulges and the front ... Everything!

I wanted rent something fun when in Western Australia. Thought I’d get something cool, but a 4 door Tasman RWD was all they had for me. Over 4K Tasmans sold in Australia in 2025. Wonder, like Hyundai originally did in the US, if they dumped them at bottom dollar to rental companies to “get them out there”. Still getting a lot of Hyundai/Kia when renting in the states.

Will a Tasman meet US crash standards?
