Where's the 12 volt battery located on the Maverick's hybrid 2.5L engine?

I see a covered case, how do you know there is only one battery in there?
There are 3 symbols on the cover. The top one looks like a battery with + and - terminals, a universal symbol for a battery. That's what I get from the picture.

Thanks, that cleared up a grey area for me. I thought both batteries would be accessible from under the seat. Are other Hybrids like that?
I believe the Escape Hybrid's 12v battery is under the spare tire in the rear well.

The 12-Volt battery is the only one under the seat inside the passenger compartment. The Lithium-Ion Hybrid Battery is under the floor outside the passenger compartment, accessible only from below.
And I assume the battery under the seat is a traditional lead-acid battery while the one under the floor is a lithium ion? Is the lead-acid battery only used for accessories or what?

Lead acid and not AGM?
AGM not to my knowledge. AGM is still a lead acid battery.

AGM is for vehicles where high loads and cranking needs are there for the 12V battery. In a hybrid that isn't the case. The 12V never needs to crank over the engine, as the high-voltage battery does that.

Being the location it is, I would figure that traditional lead acid batteries are not a good idea strictly from a maintenance standpoint. AGMs tend to last longer and none of them require service for the life of them.

AGM costs a lot more and this is a bargain basement vehicle. Honestly, the interior space is the best place to put a 12V lead-acid battery as it is kept from temperature extremes, moisture and other issues that often cause a battery shorter life and the visible corrosion we often associate with them. All of my vehicles I've ever owned with batteries in the interior or trunk never had corrosion or leakage. They should all be put somewhere other than under the hood.

I'm going to point out that current AGMs are not as costly as they used to be. This also does not change that AGMs will last even longer in those same conditions. Personally my first change will be to a Nano Gel battery. But at the same time it seems that traditional lead acid directly under a seat in the cabin isn't the greatest idea. I understand in a trunk or somewhere not directly under a person.

Not sure about Ford, but Toyota uses small (half the size of what you'd find in a normal car) deep cycle AGM batteries in Hybrids. Why? Because the battery is inside the vehicle, not in open air.

Skip to around 6 minutes to see how the 12v battery is contained.

BXT-99RT4-A is the hybrid battery and it is AGM. Just found out.

Perfect. Mystery solved :)
Yup. Also found out that all new motorcraft batteries are AGM. Ford completely ditch traditional and that is good on them.

AGM is STILL a lead acid battery - just a better one.
