Did a change with filter. Refilled with 5 1/2 quarts. Dip stick shows about 3/16 of an inch over the top marking parked level and hot. Debating removing a little. Or not?

By the way. Rock Auto has great prices on WIX filters. Shipping was cheap and didn’t really change based on order size so I ordered extra oil, cabin and air filters.

⬆ This is the way! When you have multiple vehicles too, it's easier and cheaper to order larger quantities of oil and filters from them. You just have to plan out your oil changes in advance a little.

As for your dipstick reading, I'd honestly just run it like that.

If it was my Engine I’d drain mine down a bit, I like mine between the lines.
Going around curves fast with too much oil could cause your crank to contact the oil load and foam it up. Your oil pump could possibly suck up some air, foamy oil. That could cause a bearing to be oil starved.

Oil pump Cavitation is not good.

It might matter if someone was planning to get past a quarter million miles on their engine.

528,000 trouble free miles out of my 2008
2.7 Ltr 4 banger Taco.
I was meticulously careful and never overfilled my oil pan.
Just sayin’

Is this your first oil change? If not, has it always read high after 5.5 qts? What was your drain procedure?

While curious, if you are sure you put 5.5 qts in, I would run as-is, and check it occasionally.

Ok,let the old man speak.I believe my 2022 ecoboost requires 5 1/5 quarts with new filter.so,i end up with half a quart of oil on the bench.so,i just put 6 quarts in the motor and go on about my business 🤪but i wouldn’t recommend anyone else doing it.

3rd. Just warm it, put it up on ramps. Drain and change filter. Put in new oil. Certain on the 5 1/2quarts unless the 5 was an over filled jug.

My '22 Bronco Sport would do the exact same thing. With a 5.5 quart fill and oil filter it would be 1/4" above the top hole on the dipstick. Put 5 quarts in it it and it would be 1/8" from the top of the crosshatch area. Ran it with 5 quarts.

If you drained and filled properly, the stick is showing the proper fill level no matter what the stick reads. Accept what the stick indicates and don't worry about it. Make a mental note that the stick will read a little over 'full' after a complete oil and filter replacement. Manufacturing tolerances are not exact, Designers shoot for "close" not "exact". The manufacturing arm shoots for a +/- tolerance. When all is said and done, the dipstick level is what it is. In the 50+ vehicles I have owned over 60 years, most of the sticks indicate a little over full. When working in the service department, I never had a customer say the dipstick is a little off. I wonder what the factory Rep would've said if I had brought this to his attention.:sneaky:

Sounds legit. Capacity is rated. I’ll go with this.

if you fill the filter put 5 in there and done! to much oil can mess things up.
