At this point Toyota is like a bad Politition. Always teasing a solution is coming and dangling the carrot to it's followers only to keep pulling it away.

Lying to the public excessively is becoming a bad trend. Credibility is out the window, just like their reliability lately. Maybe Toyota thinks we want all these lies given our current government administration tendencies. Truth is they have declined to produce this truck again, saying it will just cannibalize Taco sales.

Maverick will soldier on having only 2 competitors in 2028. The Slate EV, and the unnamed New Ford EV truck.

The big question? How much of the New Ford EV truck design and tech will make it's way into the 2028 Maverick? I am glad that the Maverick exists. I owned and enjoyed many F150-F650 trucks, but just don't need them anymore. The Maverick Hybrid is a perfect Urban truck.

I would expect Ford to milk the Maverick as-is for as long as possible. There is history. I owned two last generation Rangers. Ford milked that ancient design for literally decades. Change a body panel here and there. I still laughingly remember the "power bulge hood" on my 4 cylinder Ranger. Sheet metal. Extract every penny possible from existing capital investment. It's sound business strategy.

I don't think Ford will spend a penny on the Maverick unless it extracts a dollar in cost. The 2025 ugly headlight change? That was cost savings. The bigger screen? That was a cost savings - because they eliminated all the very expensive physical controls and moved them to the screen. Taking $100 our of the Maverick adds up over a million or two million units sold over a decade or two.

As for predicting future competition for the Maverick, nobody on this forum knows squat about that. And the hysterical Internet scoops are just the result of some "automotive journalist" squatting to generate clicks (fanboys swarm like flies to the results of such squatting).

Smart OEMs typically hold their plans close to their chests until they're ready to sell. For competitive reasons. And to avoid undercutting current product. So if there is a Toyota, or an R2T, or a Kia truck, or something else - we'll know a few months before it appears in dealerships.

One more model year of the current body style. Then the new body style code "P778" comes out for 2028. Ram is making a midsize truck soon, but doesn't want to compete against the Maverick in the US.

I remember the Ranger "Powerdome" hood.....thought it was funny that then you popped said hood and saw the 2.3L Lima motor gleaming in all its glory, rippling with "power"...lol

I agree. Same for me. And, if it's any indication from all the big empty trucks out there I see, the same for most. I went to a show in Central Wisconsin yesterday and there were a lot of trucks towing trailers with snowmobiles and four wheelers. Nothing a Maverick couldn't do except guzzling $3.60/gallon gas better.

Maybe those folks driving the big trucks, want the room of a big truck. It's their money why should it bother anyone?
Doesn't bother me, I have friends with big trucks and I don't say anything. Just a little amazing, like someone wearing shorts in the winter.

To be fair Toyota isn’t making all the BS AI generated videos and articles. The fact that people read them, think they are real, then post them is on the OPs.

If you look up the Maverick online there is tons of the same BS type articles and videos, its not Fords fault, and people here post that stuff too.

Toyota themselves have announced plans go forward and backpedaled several times. I'm not referring to the AI click bait crap.

I wear shorts in the winter quite often as long as it’s above 40 F
I’m not Scottish but my Kilt is really warm.

I don’t make fun of guys with big trucks even if they haul only air.

It’s a free country and I’ll kill to protect a guys right to drive a big truck.
Maybe he’s compensating for a teeny,,,,
maybe his wife makes him drive the mini van on sundays.
Not my concern.
:’P

Little dude in my neighborhood stands 5’1”
He drives a mini cooper and a VW POS
And a Honda 125 Enduro

His pick up truck is a 1990 F-150 4X4
Lifted 6 inches to fit his tires.
I could care less if he’s comping for something.
He’s always got a big shit eating grin every time I see him driving it. It’s funnay to me to watch him get in the truck.
I keep my mouth shut,
he packs a Kimber 45

He says my Maverick is cute. :’P

Did they? The only official smaller truck talk was about the electric truck based on the landcruser platform set to come out in 2027. I never read or saw an official statement that they would be making a Maverick competitor. The quotes I saw said they were considering it, which is hardly an announcement.

Yes, I've seen it several times, and saw a video of a Toyota exec talking about it. The following was posted by a dealer:
