When i park my truck, I put it in "N", then set the parking brake, then put it in Park. This way there is no binding under its own weight forwards or backwards, witch will result in a thud at times. Not sure if that is what you are talking about, but either way...
I don’t do neutral but a similar brake > park > p brake > foot off brake

Me too. That is the correct way for a properly functioning automatic or CVT or eCVT.

I forgot how to set the parking brake when driving a manual though.

At the very least you should check your fluid level. My trans went at 38K.

My dad brought a level & magnet to the “Mystery Spot” and confirmed the anomaly 😳

more seriously, though, due to differences in the crust of the earth and the "squished" deviance from an actual sphere due to spinning, there is a roughly 1/2% difference on the surface between the the strongest and weakest gravity.

My high school Physics teacher told us about a case in which "missing" gold was investigated as it got flown interstate.

The problem is that they were weighing it, rather than using a balance to measure the mass!

After getting it open, when I put my truck in reverse, it clunked into gear which it's never done before. Putting it into drive and park was fine but I did not like what it did in reverse.

Isn't that a sign of transmission failure?
A single clunk that hasn't repeated? Hardly.

Electronically controlled automatics have interesting shift logic at times. I was in a wash in southern Utah in an F-150 with the 10-speed, rolled on the throttle, and the truck absolutely slammed into gear. It felt like getting rear-ended at a stop. I thought something broke, but after I got moving, it shifted buttery smooth and has done another 30,000 road miles without issue.

I have the hybrid, but I always go the neutral set the parking brake then Park route. Also make sure it's out of auto brake hold mode so the load is firmly on the locked parking brakes before the parking pawl is engaged. Then there's no load on the transmission pawl. In reverse order, you take it out of Park, then release the parking brake.

So, I'm rolling up to my driveway and had to pull up to the side since I have a Mi-Box storage pod in the way blocking the garage door's reception. After getting it open, when I put my truck in reverse, it clunked into gear which it's never done before. Putting it into drive and park was fine but I did not like what it did in reverse.

Isn't that a sign of transmission failure? I've heard that's a common issue with the EB 8-speeds. It only has a little over 12,000 miles and I treat the transmission like glass for that reason. I'm not one of those types who puts it in gear while it's still rolling. I make sure to come to a complete stop before changing gear.

Ironically, I was thinking to myself how good of a truck it's been and then this happens right afterwards. Hopefully I didn't jinx it.
Correct me if im wrong but wouldnt this be a sign of driveshaft u joint failure and ofcourse sometimes normally you will get a thud here and there.

I've got 73k on my 8 speed. I've had maybe 3 or 4 clunks here and there at parking speeds. No other issues with shifting at other speeds. Love the sport mode. I always set the parking brake. Blows my mind how many people don't. It's not about stopping your car from rolling away, it's about avoiding the weight of the car "resting" against the parking gear and the force it takes to dislodge it. Even the slightest grade will cause this. Not a transmission killer, but not good either.

Also, don't follow the fluid change schedule from Ford. I did mine at 60k. Some say 30k, but I don't tow much.

It happens, i had it once. I think it was my fault, I didnt have the parking brake set on a slight incline and put the shifter into drive. I think as it goes through neutral to drive it will roll a bit and then clunk into drive if you arent fast enough on the dial, but thats just my theory

My F150 transmission gave a mightly clunk into drive after returning from a long trip of about 2500 kms. It did it again and I took it to my Ford dealer where they reflashed the programming and it never happened again. I think changing the fluid early is a great idea if done properly.

Was your truck on perfectly flat ground or was there an incline? My driveway has a pretty noticeable incline and I learned only on that if I relied solely on shifting into park and not using the parking brake, it would make a very expensive clunking sound the next time I got in and shifted into reverse. For that reason, when I park I always come to a stop, shift into park, activate the parking brake, and then release my foot off the brake pedal. I've found that process avoids the clunking sound.

I’ve heard that clunk once or twice, not worried at all. If I’m on any sort of incline it thumps into or out of park occasionally.

The simple fix on inclines :
Come to a stop,
Keep your foot pressing the brakes,
Engage your parking brake then put it in park and take your foot off the brake.

When you return,
Start er up,
Foot stays on the brake,
Disengage the park brake. And put it in gear then lift off the brakes.
Easy peasy, No clunk.

I’ve got the extended warranty so not concerned in the least. That $2,000 gives me piece of mind, worth every penny to me.

You might just have one of those experiential transmissions manufactured by BMW motorcycles, (only BMW riders will get that one).

As someone who had their transmission fail, there where occasionally clunks going from drive to reverse when the truck was brand new and after the dealership installed the new transmission. The clunks where totally absent when the tranny failed :)

I wouldn't worry about it, just remember to change your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles just to be sure.

You'll know yout tranny is going out when it starts to slip under acceleration, with your engine RPM rising without your truck going any faster.
