Rear tow‑beam on my 2025 Maverick Hybrid got pushed downward. Two shops say the rear rails (boron steel) must be replaced. My photos look like the integrated hitch/impact bar is bent and some thin white sheet‑metal lips got wrinkled. I need the community’s eyes: is this truly rail damage, or just the beam + thin flanges + brackets? What should I measure/check before authorizing a rail job? Is there a diagram that i can look into?

Was there damage to the tailgate? Rear fenders? Taillights?

Sorry, but Mavericks get totaled for less damage than what is in your pictures...

Thanks for your responses. Those professionals didn't take a look in person only pictures since am out in rural. Yes there was a damage to the rear bumper and hitch reinforcement. No Airbags deployed. I have been reading and looking online on Ford maverick diagram, and it appears it may only be the flanges or so-called Rail end‑face where the hitch connects but may be not the entire rail frame. because it its only minor rear end, if the boron steel is this hard. It shouldn't bend, if it did, then airbags should deploy but they didnt. I am having hard time determine that, I don't want it totaled i just need to fix this and get it inspected and registered. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

🤔 Your Maverick Is TOTALED.
The areas that you circled are part of the boron frame.
There is no heating unbending or repairing of boron steel. Once boron steel has been compromised. It has to be replaced.
This is part of what needs to be replaced.

Actually the Maverick can sustain quite a crush. It's sacrifices itself instead of passing on the forces to the occupants on the inside.
Bent rails under the bed, will do it.

If you take a look at the below threads you'll see it how little damage total a Maverick by bending the boron steel.
On September 30th 2024 I started keeping an informal tally about Mavericks being a cracked windshield and rear end accident magnet.

Airbags don't deploy in a rear-end collision....

Why are you fighting it so much? I would want my new Maverick to be fixed to pre-accident condition. The frame rails are most definitely bent from the pictures you've provided.

EDIT: It would have helped to know that the OP bought a wreck, rather than having a new truck that got in a wreck.....

Front air bags are designed to deploy in front end or near front end collisions.
Side bags deploy for side collisions.
For either, you need significant acceleration in an intended direction.

Lack of deployment when the vehicle is rear ended is normal, so that doesn't imply the force encountered was minimal.
You obviously had some significant body damage and that's often enough to total the vehicle.

If they do total it, you can settle on an amount and keep the truck by netting out its residual value, but you'll have a truck with a salvage title, and that can have a set of issues you should explore before deciding on that course of action.

You would likely be better off if they do total it, get the proceeds and buy a new one.

The area you circled in blue is the unibody's crumple zone. When that area crumples the cost to repair is usually not economically feasible and the vehicle gets totaled by the insurance.

Replacing the rear unibody structure is a VERY BIG job, not something a vast majority of us can do in our home garage.

Question??? Did you purchase this vehicle from an auto broker hoping to fix it?

If the discounted price was low enough you might be able to have it repaired and still come out OK financially. IMHO this outcome, unfortunately, is not likely.

I ask because you stated that you just wanted to fix it so you could get it inspected and registered.

You have a headrest for rear end collisions, not an airbag.

Yes Ser you are absolutely right. I did bought this from COpart, my first experience but appears to be not a smart move. I mean it looked like body cosmetic damage and rear door panel, bumper and Hitch damage from pictures which i thought i will fix and wont care about the body repair since i am keeping it for long run. But then found this after delivery. But am just shocked at maverick rails being bent this bad with not a major rear end. I mean it's a brand-new truck which i got for $14K. What's confusing me is- is it actually rail frame or merely the thin flanges behind the frame connecting the hitch. I am ok getting this repaired some one and paying a decent amount. But at this point am getting confusing answers as to what needs to be repaired. ANy similar experiences and thoughts are appreciated.

No the answers have been entirely consistent. The boron steel frame rail is bent and needs replaced. It was a major rear end hit. The receiver took a big hit to bend it down that far and bend the frame rails.

You don't want to accept that reality.

You could buy the end caps and try and get away with getting it registered if you plan to use it for a personal vehicle. If you're trying to repair and sell it for a profit then I would hope you would do the right thing and repair it properly.

I have absolutely no intent to all to sell it. And answers i was talking about were from Repair shops not from this forum. I needed a vehicle and i found this on Copart and bought. have no intent to make money but to save for sure if i can. Which end caps are you talking about btw?

Another challenge is that this $14k vehicle is likely going require another $10k in repairs even if the OP does some of the work, it will have a salvage title, and most insurance companies won’t insure it.

good luck

Air bags don't usually deploy in a rear end collision. The seat back, headrest, and rear crush of the vehicle protects you. The air bags protect your body from hitting the dash, steering wheel, front windshield side door. Or window
