That is incredible it still didn’t blow that bumper apart!! Do you have pictures of the passenger side after the car was peeled off???

No I didn't for respect yo the other part, but believe me the damage was all the way in, and when I moved foward and saw the engine area was pretty damaged, I hope he can fix it because the person was super nice, but in my opinion was more expensive fixing it than totaling it.

I want one!
Especially on my replacement Maverick. My first one got totaled from behind (bent chassis rail).
These bumper guards REALLY DO work. Have used them for years...but some are much better than others...have to be made to cushion the impact. Saved me at least 2 or 3 times...It won't solve all hard bumps but will some. Only caution I had to make is the Mavrick is too long for my garage, and my garage door was hitting the bumper guard.

FYI: The rear bumper (plastic/rubber) is very easy to puncture from just a small bump, and the bumper guard helps protect. With a fairly hard hit, bumper guards self-destruct and have to be replaced.

Based on sites like this, it almost appears that the Maverick is a magnet for rear end collisions. Glad that there was no injury to the OP.
You don't say😱
On September 30th 2024 I started keeping an informal tally about Mavericks being a cracked windshield and rear end accident magnet.

None?

I keep my bike rack hitch at the tow hitch receiver

I heard that there are a lot of hit & runs in Mexico. Is that true ? I've witnessed a few here also.

Yeah! I'm aware of that as well, I'm retired so, I don't leave the house everyday. Car insurance policy is not mandatory around here, it is mandatory if the car is financed by the Bank, but after that it's optional. So it's complicated to be involved in a car crash 😕
If you ever got pull over by the police, they never gonna ask you for the insurance card.

I wonder if that thing affects the backup warning system? ( Sorry, can't remember the technical name.)
On mine it depends how far out you have it. If it beeps, move it in a notch.

This is partly why we have kept the trailer hitch on our Maverick.

Was sitting at an intersection waiting to turn right. Light was red going across, but green for left turn signals. Lady behind me wasn’t paying attention, saw the light change, thought we had the go and drove right into the truck. Trailer hitch went through her front bumper and pierced her radiator. You could see the trail of coolant as I drove into the gas station lot. Her car was damaged, while I just needed to replace the rear crash pad and bumper. Could have been a lot worse if the trailer hitch was not there. Trailer hitch has not come off since then 😆😬🤷🏻‍♀️
Surprising, but cities and states are making laws making it illegal to drive around with a trailer hitch hanging out due to excessive damage it can cause from a minor rear end bump. You can google it to see more and more states passing such laws.

I used to leave my trailer hitch in too, but at a red light a lady rear ended me. Had within the hour pickup up a new Mercedese....was fiddling with new dash buttons when she hit me. I barely felt her bump, but my hitch went through her plastic grill and radiator...we swapped phone numbers and I called her a few weeks later...she reported she had $4,000 in damages....I no longer run around with my hitch ball in. I and other have more than once ran into hitch hanging out with a shin.

Wow I never heard that before.
I couldn't find any cities. So far only 2 states.
As of 2024, it is illegal to leave a tow hitch or trailer ball mount on your vehicle when not towing in states like Virginia and Hawaii, unless you are actively towing a trailer.

Another instance of a good driver being inconvenienced or penalized do the actions of a bad or phone obsessed distracted driver.

Retired from the legal field...but where it comes up mostly...is vehicle manufacturers still have bumper specifications they are required to provide...Adding a hitch ball puts the burden of "excessive damage" on to the vehicle owner...Insurance companies are on the band wagon from paying for damages from customer altered vehicle specs (ie: trailer hitches)...Long story... to reduce coverage....Insurance companies are lobbying states to pass such laws. I can see it, I trailer motorcycles frequently and forget and leave the hitch ball installed...until the lady bumped me, or I hit my shin.

Current states with laws against having hitch balled attached and not in use.
Mass, WV, Ill, Hawaii, Virginia and more added monthly.

My heavy duty Rubber Step Bumper, if anything would cause less damage than a "hitch ball" (for sure). Anyone wanting to know the facts about "hitch bumpers" Google "ETrailer"...they are the experts on everything about trail hitches, bumpers, etc. Their site also covers use of "hitch balls" when not towing a trailer.

I wonder how that plays out with step hitches.

If its not part of the factory design, then the excessive damage to the other vehicle is your problem and its pretty irrelevant that its a step, a bed extension or a hitch. Expect to get sued by the other insurance company.

As I said before. Another example of the responsible driver being penalized for the actions of an irresponsible driver.

Aloha.

Been to bussy but with itchy to post my experience with this.

When 1st got my maverick on 2022 during car washes when I was stepping out of the bed I felt, the fall was so brutal that I still freeze only thinking about it, the slamming on the floor was sudden and powerful that Right away started looking for something to step safely and avoid unnecessary injuries.

After like forever I decided and order the:
Bully BBS-1104L

This thing has paid itself off by giving me peace of mind while stepping out of the truck bed, other good thing is the many times it saved my truck from the walls (me backing up) or in parking lots when ppl just hit you and act like nothing happened.

But the most important one was when someone had a brake malfunction and slamed into my truck, yes was a low speed (bellow 35mph or so) but it was enough to pretty much destroy front of the other person vehicle, yep the hood+lights +radiator+condenser etc. My maverick ? Glad you asked, like nothing even happened I checked on a shop just on case and like nothing even happened, no even a scratch.

I'm by no means saying this best thing since slice bread but on my case is been awesome, with so many histories about maverick been totaled getting rear ended this thing definitely could save you from lots of headaches and your truck on the same time.

Nobody were injured, the person was super nice and with a great personality, I was sad because the person vehicle but happy my truck didn't suffered from the maverick rear ended finale that we see here on the forums more oftenly that we would want to see.

Amazon took forever to deliver the new one, but definitely worth the wait and every penny spent on it, hopefully nobody else rear end my maverick but if it happens again I feel confident enough that this thing have my back.

good thing the little car almost subducted under your truck,if the crash bar on the car had connected first you may have had a sprung rear frame as it was the bully bar crumpled and absorbed some of the energy, the hitch crash bar itself is fairly robust,it wouldn't really take that much to spring it all these parts are designed to absorb energy especially on the front of the car if it had been going faster you may have been looking at a frame repair and a totaled car.one of my acquaintances rear-ended a little car and it almost totaled his Chevy truck( good design incremental crush and a suspension that folded down, what worries me is those rock crawler"ranch hand type bumpers when they start killing people the lawsuits will fly,oth even a hitch ball will help in a minor bumper rap, blame the feds for relaxing bumper impact standards,my wife had rearender in a 740 Volvo,it was a pretty hard hit due to the heavy aluminum bumper and telescoping mounts the Volvo was unscathed, always beware of what you put on something that might actually cause others harm, what a Maverick really needs is a stouter front end, because the way the push bars and guards can be mounted the aftermarket equipment would actually turn what would be a cracked grill into a major front end repair.once sitting at a light at home Depot a clown in a Dodge caliber slammed into my rear end on a Dodge Dakota,he had pretty significant damage to the caliber,I didn't have a hitch ball in the hitch absorbed most of the impact, looking at it later there was quite a bit of damage to the truck( if I had the hitch ball in the Caliber wouldn't have driven away and the inattentive guy in the Caliber would have had to pay for his "dumbassery" which leads me to say always hitch a ride when possible or let someone else drive because a fraction of a second inattentiveness would cause a world of trouble( it has to do with kinetic energy and newtons third)
Not in my experience. Yes the bumper absorbed energy: the damage looked superficial. The frame rail was crumpled anyway.
Now replaced with an XLT with a hitch, I’m thinking of putting something in it:
