Ford EV Truck & Low-Price Platform -- New Specs & Details

Meh. Given the Maverick’s growing pains I wouldn’t touch something like this until at least 2031. Not really inclined to give Ford more of my money for beta testing for them. Seems like everything about this vehicle is about testing new concepts, and lowering manufacturing costs (not costs for buyers), if you want to be a test mule, enjoy!

Just IMO that looks terrible and nothing like the actual vehicle that will be produced.

That's not the final design, you can see from this areo image the actual truck has a longer hood than that sketch. You can't make out the actual lines of course, but you can see the basic proportions in this aero graphic.

But there are elements from that blue sketch I like. It's an EV truck, it's gonna have a closed off front end with no grille, so with that in mind, I think this front end works pretty well with that.

Looking at the areo graphic, it looks like the rear of the cab is pretty far back, basically right over the rear wheel. It would probably be more polarizing, but it you had a shorter distance between the back of the cab and the tailgate, I personally think this angled look is more gradual, and less awkward than if you just had a 90 degree angle coming off the back of the cab with a really short bed.

Keep in mind this thing is probably gonna be called ranchero, and be a sporty RWD ute. So having a sportier, more expensive design kinda fits it.

Everyone is gonna feel differently about things. Some will want this here to be more conservative, others will want it to be more sporty and aggressive, you can't make both sides happy.

My stance on the matter is yes, this and the maverick aren't the same truck, ones gas powered and ones an EV. But beyond that, they're both relatively compact, affordable, cheap to own Ford trucks. There's a ton of overlap there, especially if you own a hybrid maverick, now you're looking at two energy efficient, compact, affordable Ford trucks that will be similar in size and price.

I feel like they should be differentiated so both can succeed, and having different designs is a good way to do that. The maverick is a good looking truck, but it's very conventional looking. For all the truck types offers, they don't offer a boldly styled lifestyle truck, everything they make has that very traditional truck shape to it.

Having a modern ranchero as this super affordable, sporty ute with expressive styling isn't the worst idea in the world. Something with a muscular front end, maybe a slight coupe influence in the rear, with more customization and advanced tech than what the maverick offers.

That way, Ford could appeal to both crowds. The traditionalists who just want a convention looking truck, and those who want truck utility with a bolder design. I believe there's a market for both.

Easy, less crap. Fewer computers chips, and things that really drive up the cost like over sized screens, phone charging pads, fancy separate DRLs, electronic parking brakes, oversized wheels and tires.

I wonder how the folks at Slate are feeling right about now. Very different trucks, but just close enough that anyone looking at a Slate would probably at least glance at the Ford.

Yeah slate is dead lol. It's a 27k truck with two doors, a bare bones interior, 0-60 in 8 seconds with 150 miles of range vs. a 30k 4 door truck that's gonna have a nice interior for the price, 0-60 in sub 5 seconds, and around 300 miles of range.

Pure conjecture on my part, but informed by usual industry practices. I don't expect the new Ford to give all those specs at the same time. I suspect that the fast speed and long range comes with the AWD variant with a big battery - for more money. And I'm cool with that.

I'd wager the $30K variant is FWD, with a smaller battery and longer accelleration times. If you do get everything for $30K, then that is the best birthday present any of us ever got.

Some sketches, we'll see how close the final truck is to these. They're bold, polarizing, but I kinda love how Ford took a swing with the styling.

I sure hope the new truck doesn’t look anything like that, if it does Ford can kiss my purchase goodbye. I’m a 3 box truck type of guy. That’s one of the things I like about the Maverick it looks like a shrunk down F150.

Seems like the revolutionary manufacturing is just taking a page (or a few of them) from Tesla's playbook. Less fasteners, gigacasting, aero, etc. You know, the stuff people have panned them for building cheap vehicles that are rattleboxes.

I'm still highly skeptical you'll get much for $31,600.

Copy Tesla when needed to keep the cost down, I get that.
