Not only did they not match, they didn't even call me back !

Car Shield is a legal scam. The Feds just settled with them for their arbitrary denial of claims. In theory, they're supposed to change, but since their business model was hiding behind the fine print in their contracts I'm kinda dubious, adding in the fact that the Trump administration doesn't give a shit about consumer protections.

Additionally, that's a service contract, not an extended warranty. Only Ford can provide that for our Mavs.

$7000.00 plus for new transmission in these and there have been some failures after regular warrenty was up. Other parts PTU and RDU have seen some failures and replacement is expensive. While the number of failures is low overall I'm not gambling with those costs.

That sounds like good advice.

I'm still not sure what option makes the most economic sense. Pay more to get service done by an honest shop or get service done cheaper under an extended warranty.
The answer to whether get an ESP warranty is determined by how long are you going to keep your Maverick. Getting a 10 year ESP will guarantee if anything needs repairing, or replacing, it will only cost you $100 for parts, and labor by Ford which has all the programs to recalabrate what needed replacement. Also keep your truck 7 years, then sell it with a 3 years left on the ESP transferable to the next owner with the same 3 years warranty you had when you bought it new. Dealers, and shops today charge over $150 an hour, just for labor.

OR, you can get a pro-rated refund if you sell it and don't have any claims (at least if you buy it through Zeigler Ford. Dunno about anywhere else.)

As long as it's a Ford ESP, it doesn't matter where or what Ford dealership it was purchased at, it's transferable, or pro rated if you trade your truck in.

Yup.
or you can blow through the miles/years without ever claiming a dime against your warranty
Your assuming there is even going to be a repair bill. My two 16 year old dodges have not needed any repairs. Only normal maintenance items. Iam hoping our maverick is the same.

Lol, they have been awesome! Selling the van this spring since its approaching 200,000 miles. The ram iam hoping to get at least another 5 years out of it. Bought brand new. Oh, I also have a 54 year old Plymouth, still runs and looks like a champ! Not one recall in 54 years lol.

We have a 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat, which we got in Nov or '23, so our 3 years is up in 9 months. We have about 9200 miles on it so hitting the 36,000 mile in 3 years was never even a possibility. other than the truck "falling asleep" we have no complaints. We are getting close to 45 mpg so no issue with that. I don't see us trading it anytime soon. We are both retired and in our 70s so we don't really do much traveling, and really don't plan any big trips. Is the extended warranty something we should consider?

Great question. If you shop around at one of the dealerships that sell the Ford Protect warranties, they are not horribly priced. Your low mileage means you may be less likely to need it, but you can purchase lower mileage warranties to match. Waiting beyond the first year of ownership does make them more expensive.

I bought a warranty for my 2022 F150 in February of 2022, right after I got it. The truck now has 20k miles on it. I knew I was only going to drive it when I needed a truck, so I got an 8 year, 60k mile warranty at a price I was happy with. Hopefully I never need it, but it's worth it for the peace of mind to me.

I'm picking up my Maverick next week, and I plan to purchase a warranty shortly afterwards with the appropriate miles and years. I only recommend the Ford OEM warranty (Ford Protect) because of all the horror stories about third-party warranties. Maybe there is a good third party, but I'm sticking with Ford only.

I've traded a couple F150's that I purchased the warranty for. When the dealer asks if there is anything wrong with it, I tell them "No, and it has the Ford Protect warranty so run it through your shop." In both cases I got a pro-rated refund because they would rather sell a new warranty to the next buyer than pass along mine for nothing.

I would add that if you have not yet gone past the factory miles/time warranty, the purchased warranty should be totally refundable. There may be a paperwork or filing fee, but you have not called the purchased warranty into action and they had no exposure.
When selling private party, it is an extra feature to a buyer if they want to pay for the warranty or you can cancel it and get pro-rata refund. I did NOT include the extended in the offered sale price, but offered it as an extra cost if they wanted it, with no profit on my part. Kinda think it helped close the deal...
