You may be right, but I think only the hybrid battery is covered under warranty for 8 years. I opted out of extended warranty since my 3 yrs Hybrid only has 30,000 miles on it. Just not worth it. I usually get tired of a vehicle in 4, 5 years and look for something new.
I would probably trade every 4-5 years if ford had 4yr/50k warranty.

only if the extended warranty even covers it

I bought an extended warranty ONCE because the finance guy managed to successfully give me anxiety about the cost to replace any of the computers in my old WRX. I had that vehicle for 16 years and never engaged the extended warranty a single time. Nothing that actually needed done over the years was ever covered by it.

Put the same money into a savings account or invest it in an index fund like $SPY instead. There’s a good chance you’ll come out way ahead earning interest and dividends on it rather than paying interest
Most of the time I agree. I absolutely refuse to buy extended warranties on 99% of products because they're usually prohibitively expensive and always find a way to disqualify your claim. BUT!

Make sure you're considering the HUGE difference between subpar, 3rd party extended warranties and a Ford ESP.
Even though the dealers always push HARD for those 3rd party warranties (including Ford dealers), I've never even heard of someone getting a significant item (transmission failure, for instance) covered. They are, IMO, a total and complete waste of money.

The Ford ESP, OTOH, is a different animal. I'm familiar with several scenarios over the years where the ESP has covered things every bit as well as the original base warranty.

I purchased an ESP for my Maverick right off the bat when buying it. As the former owner of 3 Escapes, 2 of which exhibited transmission problems at or before 80k miles, I don't expect this transmission to hold up any better. Knowing that I'll have a drivable vehicle for at least 6 years/125k miles for an extra $1400 was a no brainer for me.

I'm at 53k and haven't had transmission problems yet but have already had several hundred dollars worth of electronics issues. So with 2.5 years and 75k miles left on my warranty, and given the number of people I see with failing transmissions in these trucks before 90k miles? Personally, I don't have a drop of regret in my purchase.

Of course, as always, ymmv.

My last vehicle ended up with two major repairs before I got rid of it at the 11 year/170,000 mile mark. Both would have been covered by the extended warranty. The car before that died at 8 years and 130K miles from something that would have been covered. The cost of that was bad enough I opted to replace the vehicle. The Ford extended warranty from Granger was cheap enough that it came in several grand under the cost of the repairs needed for both vehicles. Assuming that in the next decade, the Maverick needs for than $4K in covered repairs, and the odds seem to be that it will, especially with Ford's reliability stats, then I'm money ahead to pop for the warranty.
