What do you guys think of this?
Seems like Toyota is officially teasing something, and that something looks like a pickup.
Or you could listen to Toyotas COO who just poured cold water on the whole idea.

I don't think the "Stout" is a high priority. Toyota is working on a:

new MR2
Celica
Supra
The "compact" truck space hasn't hit 200,000 sales yet- Toyota will not have product for another 2 years at best. They may be also be waiting to see the Maverick 2.0 and what it has for the price. New Maverick will probably have new packages- performance(ST, GT) appearance (body color parts, wheels) and lux ( soft-touch surfaces, leather, vent seats.
And yes prices will rise- 30K base to 50K high. I think late 2028 will be the intro

If that’s what it’s gonna look like it’s hideous.

if Toyota released the Stout to Merkuh, few would buy it cuz it doesn't have 20 position automatic seats, GPS cupholders, or hands-free radio tuning. Merkuns are really, really easily led by the nose about "standard features". It's really weird that successful advertising includes "most power in it's class" for base model vehicles. Just make an economical pickup, if people want "extra power" make it an option or in another model.

BUT, the success of the Mav wasn't because it was innovative or reliable or anything, it was because it was comparatively CHEAP. Merkuns are getting poorer by the day; at least everyone below the top 20%. The dollar doesn't go very far, and it's getting worse and worse due to federal policies. Car companies that can offer a vehicle for under $25k will clean up, as long as they can still make a profit. One of the reasons the feds are flirting with allowing Kei Cars is because the poors can't afford a regular car anymore.

I don't think its just clickbait from them, it's from Toyota's official US site here: https://pressroom.toyota.com/something-new-is-on-the-horizon/

Also if you actually read that article, Toyota's COO just said:
“It’s a really intriguing segment for us, but the whole segment right now is 160,000 to 170,000." He added that consumers and dealers should "be patient. When the market’s right, we may have something."
To me that just reads as someone who will not 'confirm or deny' something.

With all that being said it seems like Toyota is cooking something up, but we have no clue when it will be served.

Or you could listen to Toyotas COO who just poured cold water on the whole idea.
Just more "Click Bait"...
Only one to benefit, are these two pin-heads... Clicks = $$$ :cautious:

They’ve been in the kitchen for 6 years…..

Currently the little truck makers are waiting for a direction. I personally think it will end up towards some flavor of the Hybrid, or electric with supporting gas generator motor to keep the hybrid charged. (Which Ford has suggested) I am still keeping an eye open for the Volkswagen Scout scheduled for possible production in South Carolina.

One of my fears is the Maverick pricing it's self out of the market, since for me the BASE Maverick's market should be $30K->$35K+, if overpriced it will miss its targeted market.

The Scout brand is expected for 2027. Nice to see the name back, but it will be $60k+

If that truck gets built, which I think it will, Toyota dealers are going to mark it Up like the dealerships did with the Maverick till there's lots of inventory, so if you want one just add 5k to sticker price.

I love all of you guys and your optimism “they’re gonna build it” when they just came out and poured water all over it.

Tacoma set a new annual record last year with 274,638 units. granted, the profit per truck was WAY higher than Ford's profit per Maverick, but still. this statement is ridiculous. it isn't that the market is too small. it's obvious that they cannot compete profitably in the market! the Maverick was unbelievably cheap and after several years Ford has 'corrected' that issue, but it looks to me like no one else is in this market because they can't make money.
Ford's move was genius. They introduced it at unsustainable low price in order to get it out there. People took a chance on it at that price. Once it was out there and had proven its worth, they brought the price up to what you'd expect given the price of the vehicles it's based on the escape and Bronco Sport. It's introduced people to Ford. 60% of Maverick purchasers were new to Ford. 80% never owned a truck before. So it's not as if they significantly affected F150 sales. But people traded in CRVs and RAV 4s.

We should follow the Mustang path. Cheap start- essentially a Falcon with a better looking body that has evolved to a $50,000 car. The Maverick will never be the $21,000 it started out as. The XL will be the loss leader to get you to look and the upper trims will be more than current price. These trims pay for the XL. Not much money made on XL's.

Still chuckling at all the "I'll wait for Toyota's version" posts here over the years. Well, the Maverick has been public knowledge for almost 6 years at this point. 😄

Good luck with the wait. Ford has cornered the market and no one can or will compete with them.
Okay, I could care less if Ford has "cornered the market" That just means they probably wont improve the Maverick much & as far as I'm concerned, the more competition, the better it is for the consumer. I'm not loyal to a brand and if Toyota makes a better truck at a better price, I'm all for it.
