Have there been any REAL tests that show either an additive makes any REAL difference or high cost fuel. does? I would like to see a link to such a independent test. Not it FEELS to me its better after I did this or that.

Sorry but there is that placebo effect.
AAA paid for an independent analysis and the results indicated extreme benefits…

Thanks for the video. Turns out I use top tier gas as I almost always use sunoco. The question then is using any additive NEEDED if you already use top tier gas. ?

Ok, I'm going to fess up and put it out there:

I've always been a "all gas is the same" kind of guy.

There, I said it. But wait, there's some Paul Harvey here! So, I've seen the "geek" tell us all about the detergents and the oil and all that. But it's likely my age as much as anything, that has contributed to my recent consideration of alternative ideas that might help make my vehicle last longer and be less troublesome in its aging process. So on my last fill up from near the bottom of the tank, I included one bottle of Techron. Keep in mind, that my Mav is less than a year old and still fairly low on the clock so this was entirely a preventative choice.

Well, Holy Internal Combustion, Batman! This little 4 banger is running smoother and quieter than it did the day I drove it home! I would NEVER have expected this, especially in what could still in many respects could be considered a new vehicle. I have been so blown away by this on each outing since the fill up that I'm seriously considering those Top Tier stations even though I know I'll pay more for the gas.

So this is not a commercial. If you already were a believer, this is old hat for you. If you think it's a scam, that's okay, it's no skin off my teeth. I'm just sharing this crazy thing that makes me rethink the idea of not being able to teach an old dog new tricks. 🐶
I put it in every gasoline vehicle at every oil change.

I live at altitude and I am aware that the reason for having 85 octane fuel is that at higher altitude the 85 is the equivalent of 87. However Ford's wording in the manual is so dire and to the point I decided to not run the cheap stuff and go with at least midgrade which is 88 octane in our neck of the woods.

Because the Maverick is capable of running it I've been experimenting with Eco 88 (15% ethanol and 88 octane). So far so good although I know high ethanol fuels have an impact on fuel economy, hard to tell right now with the cold weather that kills your fuel economy in the first place.
I lived in Denver for 20 years up until recently. Used nothing but 85 octane.
Most owners do.

It's 100% fine.

What MIGHT happen is: with the huge 600 mile range the hybrids have, you COULD fill up in Denver and drive to a much lower altitude.

But then, the octane number really only comes into play at wide open throttle, which if you are like me, pretty much never happens.

I'd stick with 85 while you stay in Colorado. For piece of mind, maybe bump it up a notch before those long trips out of state. The science doesn't lie. But some owner's manual statements are overly generalized to cover worst case scenario, like you driving to Texas on Colorado gas.

Also the manual is misleading.
The Atkinson Cycle of the hybrid engine is LOW compression. Not high.
Thus octane number is even less important in an Atkinson Cycle engine.

I went on Chevron's site and they recommend their Techron for engines with over 75,000 miles and port injected (up until 2024 they were direct injection only).

Which Techron?
Techron is the name of the Chevron developed additive. There are other "fuel system cleaners" but that name would only be on that one product. If that's what you're asking.

Ok. Feel free to use it or not use it as you see fit. I'm only reporting my own experience.

Old saying,
There ain't no such thang as a mechanic in a can.
Additives are out there because they are profitable.

There are a few instances where they can help.
Along time ago I acquired a car with a fuel delivery problem.
The Camry had sat a year under a tree in Florida.
I flushed out the fuel tank, Too much water in there.
I dried it out and next I put In four cans
of Castrol Injector cleaner, two cans per tank.
The thing ran better.
I will not put additives in my Maverick.

I hear ya. Another old saying: You do you! 😃

I'm not trying to convince anyone, just sharing something that surprised me perhaps in part because I wasn't expecting to notice anything. I mean, it's practically brand new. I just want do all I can to keep it going down the road with as few troubles as possible. I came out of a 20 year old Honda Accord that had almost nothing ever done to it but I don't know if I can expect that kind of longevity out of a Ford. I've owned them before so I make that last statement with some experience.

Like vitamins and supplements for humans. Some people swear by them, others swear at them. YMMV!

Probably not if you use good top tier fuel, but it's not going to hurt either. I'm not for throwing money away senselessly, but it's undisputed that PEA works. In theory on a port injected you'll see some benefits through the entire fuel system and combustion cycle (injectors, intake valves, combustion chamber, and downstream to the catalytic converter if the engine runs slightly better). GDI only engines you can delete the intake valve benefit, but it does help keep your expensive injectors clean.

I just buy a bunch of the Gumout Regane high mileage or Techron when they are BOGO at a parts store or on sale at Wal-Mart. No one publishes exact numbers, but the Regane high mileage is supposed to have the most PEA by volume.

6 pack @ $6 each. If you used one bottle every 5,000 miles, that's around $120 for 100,000 miles. It's just hard for me to imagine that not at least paying for itself in fuel savings, plus all the other benefits that are impossible to calculate the cost savings of.
