I suspect for many, the competion for new Mavericks is now used Mavericks.

Edit: Although a quick search on cars.com only shows around 2,500 used Mavericks for sale in the USA. Not many, considering there are what, a half million or more Mavericks out there already? But I betcha the used Maverick stock keeps climbing as the fleet ages.

If you can find one. That's been the biggest issue. People are holding on to Mavericks for the most part.

The problem with the Cruz was it looked like it didn't know what it wanted to be. Was it a truck or an SUV? People that want a truck want it to look like a truck and people that want an SUV want it to look like an SUV. I believe that was the biggest issue. The other issue was bad gas milage and small interior.
Completely agree with this

Test drove the Santa before I purchased the Lariat. That touch screen seemed overboard for my taste.

If Hyundai would have offered it with as a hybrid and also a plug in hybrid with 40-50 miles of battery range along with AWD and 3,500 lb towing they'd had never been able to keep up with demand. The drivetrain lack of options was the show-stopper and it had the MPG of a full sized truck but was barely a trucklet.

Though, I think perhaps it was the new 25% tariff from the orange turd on S. Korean autos that pushed Hyundai to pull the plug.

They are made in Montgomery, AL. Technically more American than the Maverick.

I stand corrected... though anyway you look at it, Hyundai is going to get hurt and won't want to continue any low selling / low profit vehicles.

and now with that comptition gone Ford will raise the price again
I think Toyota is still working on releasing the Stout.

The price of the Maverick has been increasing due to tariffs, but if manufacturing moves into the states that would only benefit Ford and create jobs here. I would expect the price to increase even still.

its sad to see another truck, especially in this segment of the market, be discontinued but I believe if you think GM, Toyota and Honda will let Ford run away with this segment all alone you would be sadly mistaken. GM, Toyota and Honda want a piece of this pie too!! Not to mention RAM that is looking at the 150K Mavericks sold last year - nah they not gone sit still. Get ready to see more competition in this segment late this year to early next year.
Only advantage the Maverick will have is its 3 years head start. and all new redesign for 2028 (Ford is expecting the competition and wont sit still either)
This will be good for us the consumers as prices will have to drop/more added features.

I think where Hyundai really missed the mark with the Santa Cruz is with fuel efficiency. People are looking for fuel efficient vehicles more than ever and the Santa Cruz gas mileage is no better than a midsize truck.
That's basically why I didn't get a Santa Cruz. I'm not concerned so much about fuel efficiency as cruising range, but still. The non-turbo Santa Cruz has the HP of the hybrid Maverick, but gets barely better fuel economy than my Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. Combined with the Santa Cruz's smaller fuel tank means that it gets nearly the same cruising range as my Frontier, which is already terrible.

The nail in the coffin for me was that there aren't any toppers available for the Santa Cruz; just tonneau covers.

Exactly !!! With no competition, the sky is the limit for what future prices will be. Just in time for when I plan on getting one later this year

Toyota did confirm last year that they are definitely working a small truck to compete with the Maverick. The latest rumors are that it will be available sometime in 2027. Since there hasn't been a lot of information yet I'd have to think it would be late 2027 as a 2028 model year. Or the rumors could be wrong and it won't show up until 2030. We'll probably find out a lot more information by later this year.

You no I've read a lot of posts on this thread. To be frank I don't see how this affects me or will. My concern is , I feel sorry for the few that purchased one. If it is similar to past vehicles (trucks) from different manufacturers that stopped production, they most likely will take a hit on resale. I hope not but history has a way of repeating itself.

If it is built in the USA, I hope the plant and the workforce has a job and switch to something more marketable. Hopefully they will have to hire more workers especially if the demand increases for whatever they decide to build.
