I have same age and milage as yours. I used Ford points to purchase the fluids from the dealer and changed the PTU at 8k based on lots of chatter here about underfilling by factory. Mine was full and fluid looked new so I didn't look at RDU. I plan to change it at my next oil change though.

I saw someone comment cheap insurance, which is true, I paid nothing for the fluid as the Ford points were expiring anyway and had no plan to use them. Was a hassle to do so I bought enough fluid for two changes, you have to buy through service department to use the points and pickup at parts counter, took forever (an hour), and then pay at cashier to use points.

I have a Honda and VW which both have not yet succumbed to the marketing pressure of having lower maintenace cost and longer maintenance intervals. They still specify what is best for longevity for the most part. Honda says change at 15k and every 30k thereafter for RDU. And every 30k for PTU. VW says 3 years for the Haldex and gear oil. I didn't see VW specific interval for the rear but figured if 3 years for front I would so the same for rear since same fluid and takes about 20 minutes to do. I plan to just do the same with the Maverick especially since I have the free fluid. In about 8-9 more years someone will likely be buying a very rare thing, a well maintained used truck. As far as oil changes, I live in Midwest so I like to do work when weather is nice and cool, just change oil every Memorial and Thanksgiving weekends, I'm off work, have the time, and I drive about 6-12k per year on each of my 3 vehicles so works for me but you need to do what you feel is best for you.

Seems you need to search the youtube on ford's PTU and RTU difficulties.

Then you have the wrong information, Ford says never look at it unless you did something bad, but you do you!

This is the exact reason why I never buy a used vechile (except to restore). People just don't take care of thier stuff and then sell their problems.

Well I think fords recommendations are there to promote longevity. They are not going to recommend an unwise service interval, their vehicles would fail prematurely, which would put them out of business. I have two 16 year old mopars, a ram and a caravan. Their RDU fluids, and transmission fluids have never been changed and they function fine. I would hope our maverick will hold up as well. Oh, I also have a 54 year old Plymouth cuda. I did have the RDU fluid changed on it when it was 34 years old. So once in 54 years and the rear differential is fine. To each his own!
