At this point, people really need to stop pretending like supply chain shortages, freight back-ups, and labor shortages are up to Ford to solve. It is not an internal planning issue; it is a world wide manufacturing problem. They cannot, and should not stop planning the future of the Company to focus on a problem they cannot fix themselves.
I think you didn't read my last sentence as I went on the same rant you just did about 2 weeks ago.

Will be interesting to see the route they go with it. Like Toyota did with Scion for entry level cars. As long as they don't lose the original purpose like Scion did, I think that they will be ok.
Agreed, sometimes companies don't know how to leave well enough alone. I was aboutto buy a Scion Xb and they changed it up from the original. When it was finally discontinued they said the market had left them when in reality they left the market.

If Ford did this, what other Maverick-brand vehicles would you want to see?

They have to be careful because they can end up like GM and have to get rid of some models and even brands because of the cost to design and support

That being said something like a 2.3 Ecoboost with higher towing capacity could work for a lot of people, but it might eat into Ranger sales.

I could see this as a mini tahoe - add 1/2 foot of legroom in the back seat and then have a 3.5 foot storage area in the back with a more square shape for maximum height...that would actually be pretty awesome as many SUV's just have so little room in the back for being a larger vehicle. Make it so the rear seats could be removed like the Honda Element and you have a 6.6 foot space so you could sleep in the back and I think you'd have a winner.
You are spot on there. I think that would explode in both personal and fleet use. With more cubic feet of lockable storage space (2.3 ecoboost, and a beefier suspension, 6K tow package as options), you have a definite winner.

Families could get a decent trailer to pull. Service and delivery trucks could benefit also.

There's a big difference between the Scion and also Saturn, game plan vs. what I think they are planning here. Scion & Saturn opened all brand new exclusive dealerships and tried to pretend they were a different "company" from parents Toyota & GM. IMO, they don't want to create a niche brand separate from Ford but use the "family" thing while offering different versions under the banner of Maverick like how Mach E is under Mustang and Bronco Sport under Bronco.
I never saw a Stand Alone Scion Dealership, they were incorporated into Toyota Dealerships and then a marquee was put up. The sales people were strictly Scion employees though and made a salary with bonuses. They weren't paid commission. At least all of the ones that I knew. I bought my first Scion in 2005 and m last used in 2017 after my beloved Fiesta SFE was totaled by an SUV driver on his phone.

Why does it have to be the same platform? Are the Bronco and Bronco Sport on the same platform? He’s talking about a franchise not necessarily a platform. Ford itself is a franchise, is everything they build the same platform, no
Yeah you are right, I was thinking this this morning,. It is the way the article is written suggesting it is same atform, but mache and mistand are different platforms also.

I've been puzzled with the whole "family" comment since Farley mentioned it months ago. Scrolling through the comments, I can see it making sense if they go down the special trims route (Tremor, Timberline, Raptor, etc.). So with that in mind, it would be nice to see stuff like this:
  • Maverick ST/ST-Line
  • Maverick Timberline
  • Maverick Limited (super deluxe issue with real leather and fancy fittings; kind of resurrecting the Eddie Bauer thing)
  • Maverick Pro/Pro Hybrid (a SuperCab version that replaces creature comforts with work/contractor amenities and resources; FWD only)
  • Maverick Splash (yearly limited edition with special colors, seats, and wheels; limit to 1,000)
those are some good concepts, but would necessarily be limited in scope and appeal and still just being a differently accessorized version of the basic vehicle. Of your 5 options, 4 of them are more upscale and higher priced limited appeal. I'm thinking (no proof) Ford has a wider scope in mind focused on entry level configurations of different use-case vehicles at bottom end of the cost range. They would want sales to be in the 100s of Thousands per year combined and share as many components as possible and use economies of scale to keep individual unit costs at bare bones minimum and to streamline manufacturing processes as much as possible to lower overall production costs. As always, I could be wrong 🤷‍♀️

There is nothing new here, conceptually. This is not the first time Ford has done it. My Transit Connect is just a small van body tacked onto a Focus platform. It doesn't have a large market - essentially for commercial use, but it has turned out to be quite successful and you can see a lot of them zipping around with company logos. It has been the most versatile vehicle I have ever owned, if quite bare-boned. The "wagon" version with three rows of seats and more amenities is also very versatile, but it's quirky design has not attracted a lot of buyers. It feels like a car when you're driving it, and you can park it in spaces other vehicles can only dream of. (Note the wheel placement)

I’d like to see a lifted Maverick with brush guard and twin clutch rear end.

Maybe it's just me, but this rendering looks kinda like a funeral hearse...
Yeah the Transit connect style is very European, which I think would be the same if they made a Connect/Maverick.

I LOVE the Connect. I wanted a SWB with a 1.6, they quit making them and I can't seem to find one used. So it never came to be.

LOL! I consider the TC to be an undiscovered gem, except for in the commercial world. It is, in fact, actually categorized as a commercial vehicle, and it took some doing to get my insurance company to insure it as a private vehicle. It has been the most versatile and useful vehicle I have ever owned. It's like having a car with a large box attached to it. I use it to move my art inventory around (large but lightweight), but most of the time it's my daily driver. The first 3 years it served regularly as a "dressing room." I drove it to the airport where my open cockpit aircraft was kept, in a gigantic unheated hanger, shared with several vintage birds and occasionally a real WW2 Willys Jeep. I could go into the back of the van and change into my winter flight gear in relative comfort. And with 6 doors the versatility is unmatched.

And this brings up the way my TC experience was different from most owners - my van was always empty, except when moving my inventory. The rest of the time it just sported a few removable wire milk crates which kept incidentals or carried groceries. This meant my van was VERY light weight. Most commercial users stuff them with thousands of pounds of racks, tools, and inventory. I drive mine around like a sports car. Without added weight it remains very flat in turns, and it's 161 HP is quite responsive. The view from the front, with a massive wind screen is unparalleled. I am generally unaware that there's a van attached. My wife, a BMW driver, hates it! She refers to it as a hearse or an ambulance, and will only ride in it if we are transporting something she needs and can't fit into her Beemer. I'm really going to miss it. Turning 6 years old next month with only 28,000+ miles. Will always be one of the great ones to me.

It sounds similar to the old mazda 5, not the crossover cx5 but the minivan. 3 rows of seats, rear two folded down. sliding doors in the back on each side and a huge hatch in the back. Looked a lot like a hatchback and much smaller than a standard "mini" van but big enough inside to fit a dishwasher. Handled like a car. Discontinued, which was odd because we had two and everyone else we met that had them loved them, but mazda never advertised them much.
