A unibody based on the Explorer is a no brainer. I don't think "F100" would have any sway with the suburban dads that would buy that type of truck. Maybe steal the Timberline name from the new off road trims? I don't even think a midsize unibody truck would steal many sales from the Ranger. Look at the Bronco Sport/Escape. The Bronco Sport is almost all extra sales in 2021.
I like F100. Maybe I’m just old. LOL

I think there is an easy way to not dip into ranger/f150 sales. Keep the power down, fuel economy up, limit the off road capabilities/towing.

maybe 1 hybrid powertrain that can tow 5000 and gets 32ish mpg.

As cool as it is to imagine different Mav flavors, this is why I'm glad I got in early. All this bloat will affect the pricing which of course is the goal. To make it exclusive with alot of features and set prices accordingly.
I don't think so. That isn't what happened with Mach E and Bronco Sport.

Seems odd that they are thinking about adding another band. Why did they dump Mercury (the first car I ever rode in)?

General Motors did away with with Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Geo, Hummer, LaSalle and Saturn. I think I'm seeing a pattern...
not really what they are talking about. Expanding the family, not re-inventing the wheel.

That kind of performance will be reserved for the Ranger's hybrid option. But it would be so awesome

How about a AWD, fast, inexpensive, hybrid/plugin/all electric and good looking Maverick car. This will not happen because it will hurt Mustang sales just like it did in the early seventies. Ford has to raise the Maverick price by $1,000 because the V8 grabber was selling so well.

Ford Maverick Maverick may become sub-brand with additional vehicles says CEO Jim Farley 1564F0BC-8D4D-487D-9BC2-FE1242698EB6

An escape and a bronco sport are SUV on the maverick platform. A subcompact like the ecoboost isn't really the same platform.
EcoSport is dead by 2nd half of next year. THAT was the cheapest entry level vehicle in Ford's lineup until Maverick. Escape is too pricey for entry level buyers and Bronco Sport is a specialty truck geared more for off road adventures than a generic run around CUV (like Escape).

Article did not make sense. Bronco Sport is the maverick suv. Basically a Maverick with a top is a ford Flex. And it did not sell. . .

I think ford will build different small trucks off the maverick name. So an EV maverick, maybe 2 door (not likely) Basically different configuration of the small trucks.
The flex was expensive (>$30k base), got crap mileage (16/23), and had questionable design. I think a Maverick SUV hybrid with a third row starting at $25k would kill it.

Why does it have to be the same platform? Are the Bronco and Bronco Sport on the same platform? He’s talking about a franchise not necessarily a platform. Ford itself is a franchise, is everything they build the same platform, no

I think the only shot Ranger has at survival is focus on off road performance/towing for its class.

it’s so much easier/cheaper to go after mpg with unibody.

The guy who complains about people complaining about waiting for the truck they ordered way too early before production began.
[/QUOTE]

Ford could very well shoot itself in the foot here and drive off at least some willing customers who seem to have been stranded in the void. Ford set up this retail order system that has been very poorly implemented all around - and they can't blame it all on the pandemic. I'm sitting here at 4 months with not a single response from Ford or my dealer - just promises. This makes it really difficult to plan for a change of vehicles, especially if it's for a work vehicle. This isn't like just walking into a department store and trying to buy a shirt, and they are out of stock and tell you they will order one and let you know when it's in. Yes, many can afford to sit and wait, but with ZERO response from the Ford empire I was finally driven to attempt to purchase a Santa Cruz just to get this whole crazy fiasco resolved and move on. Problem is, I can't easily get my hands on a SC either! They are out there, but usually spoken for. These are not retail orders by customers, so no promises about anything, these are dealer stock allotments that customers find out about and reserve. Either you get one that is confirmed to be on the way - if not already in stock - or you don't, and you can have a dealer keep you informed about incoming allotments. I have not yet cancelled my Lariat order, but the sour taste Ford and their dealers has left in my mouth has destroyed any sense of dedication I might have given them, and actually sent me out to attempt to buy the competition. Along the way I discovered that the alternatives are really pretty good in their own way, and more will be coming as other manufacturers jump into the fray. As I watch Ford beginning to ship Mavericks off shore while leaving my 4 month old order unacknowleded, my loyalty wains by the day - and now news about expansions of a line they can't even support now? A single email from ford, giving me some reason - ANY reason to hang in there would go a long way towards giving me the feeling that my $36K purchase was appreciated. I'm NOT feeling the love.

I'm guessing they will want to expand on the "entry level" appeal and price range. I could see them killing the Escape and replacing it AND EcoSport with redesigned entry level CUV with lower price point as they've done all they can do with Escape by now. Don't forget there is also the Edge which is far nicer than Escape before you move up to Explorer and Escape's pricing was closing in on base Edge. Same concept of keeping Maverick pricing further away from Ranger. Transit Connect has always been an outlier IMO and would be better suited rebadged under the new Maverick banner and they could use the next gen platform for Maverick trucklette, new Bronco Sport, new Escape replacement and new mini van replacement for Transit connect. Maybe even sell the new platform as a cutaway so 3rd parties could fit a Service bed for trades and even a mini RV like the old Toyota/Dolphin that was pretty popular and economical?

As for Maverick trucks, I could see them offering a couple different wheelbases with single and crew cab and different bed lengths, same motor choices (but add AWD option for all motors) and add PHEV option- but peel off any fully electric the way they separated the entry level Lighting as a "work truck" in the F-150 lineup.

At this point, how bout they get up to date on current orders and builds THEN they can worry about new vehicles.

Signed,

The guy who complains about people complaining about waiting for the truck they ordered way too early before production began.
At this point, people really need to stop pretending like supply chain shortages, freight back-ups, and labor shortages are up to Ford to solve. It is not an internal planning issue; it is a world wide manufacturing problem. They cannot, and should not stop planning the future of the Company to focus on a problem they cannot fix themselves.

Amen, brother. The LAST thing they should do is stop planning for the future. They have a winner on their hands and they need to ride this bull as far as it will go.

The supply chain issues will eventually subside and so will the delays in production. And hopefully the whining, as well.
