Ford's multitalented compact pickup has a new face and features, and the hybrid version has more impressive straight-line speed.
- The hybrid Ford Maverick now offers all-wheel drive, and the version we tested is much quicker than previous front-wheel-drive models.
- Despite being about 200 pounds heavier, the AWD Maverick hit 60 mph in 6.7 seconds—as much as a full second quicker than previous FWD models we've tested.
- We think the gains have much less to do with the AWD model's extra launch traction, but rather the updated Maverick's shorter final-drive ratio and a much more powerful electric motor.
