Facelifted Ford Maverick Hybrid with AWD Is a Lot Quicker in Our Testing

Ford's multitalented compact pickup has a new face and features, and the hybrid version has more impressive straight-line speed.

• The hybrid Ford Maverick now offers all-wheel drive, and the version we tested is much quicker than previous front-wheel-drive models.
• Despite being about 200 pounds heavier, the AWD Maverick hit 60 mph in 6.7 seconds—as much as a full second quicker than previous FWD models we've tested.
• We think the gains have much less to do with the AWD model's extra launch traction, but rather the updated Maverick's shorter final-drive ratio and a much more powerful electric motor.

This actually explains a lot. I couldn’t put my finger on it but now it makes sense. I came from driving a two point 0 all-wheel drive and honestly the straight line from my 2025 lariat all-wheel-drive is so strong. I don’t miss the 2.0 engine at all. I had never driven the previous year hybrid so I had nothing to compare it against.

I would guess the Ford Corporate Marketing Group “appreciates” & approves of the positive press given to more profitable AWDs (Lobo too)?

comparison should be MY25 FWD Hybrid vs MY25 AWD Hybrid. just to make sure there isn't anything else that's been done from 24 to 25 to favor the 25awdhybrid beyond awd.

It's enough quicker that side by side, the 25 can change lanes by the 30 mph mark or so if needed off a light. It's just way more responsive off a start. At speed not much difference, but also the 25 tops out at 113 mph vs 110 on the earlier trucks too.

The electric motor has full torque right from 0, so that might play a roll in these numbers. In that sense the rolling start might not have an advantage. 3 tenths of a second likely isn't noticeable in real world driving anyway.
