Guy I know who had a Sport track for his restaurant business, traded it for a Maverick Hybrid. He doesn't miss the sport track. The Maverick was the perfect Sport Track replacement. About the same size, and easily twice the mpg.

True. But the v6 ranger and explorer weren't that good for MPG either back then. The F-150 mpg didn't improve until the new engines. I guess it was just the wrong time since the current ranger has basically the same arrangement, but with a longer bed

This made a lot of folks nervous.

The Ford Explorer and Firestone tire issue was a 1990s and early 2000s scandal involving tread separation and rollovers caused by a combination of factors, primarily defective Firestone Wilderness AT tires and the Ford Explorer's susceptibility to rollovers. Key contributors included flawed manufacturing, specifically at Firestone's Decatur plant, and Ford's recommendation of low tire pressure to mitigate rollovers.

One other factor is that the speed limit was originally 65 when they were first manufactured, but increased to 70. the XLT weren't speed rated. No rating meant they were good for 75mph. So many of the tires were being driven at their rated speed or higher. Most failed at highway speeds on longer trips. The recommended pressure was already at the lowest safe limit. Now add high speed. Fully loaded, and the fact that a lot of people don't do a pre-trip inspection to make sure the tires are inflated properly, . So now you have a lower pressure than the already low 26 PSI. That was a recipe for disaster when combined with a vehicle that was already a bit top heavy.

The Sport trac had similar MPG to the v6 and 4.6 F150. Cost as much too. Back then people just bought the Rangers or F150. Kind of like now. Maverick or F150. Mid size Rangers don't sell well.

27 year old here, should be taking delivery of my hybrid lariat in november, hopefully. I used to own a 2023 tundra but decided to get rid of it due to size, 13mpg and the engine recalls. I was deciding between a new taco or maverick but mav won due to cost, better back seat space, and the hybrid awd.

I had a Ranger, think it was a '92, and the other day I parked next to a early '90s Ranger and my Mav was bigger! (Not taller).

70 almost 71, 2024 Cactus Gray XLT FX4. Went from a 2011 Ranger. MPG almost doubled, easier to drive but it still rides like a truck.
